Just found out my idle problem on the 318is is linked to the lambda sensor (cat model) and the idle control valve, how much are these new from BMW so i have an idea on parts prices.

Thanks guys

Eurocarparts do the lambda probe a £60 but you can get them cheaper if you search.(they should be changed at 100k miles).and the idle control valve is £100 + but this is a common fault have a look at this

go to technical and then "cleaning Idle control valve"

might be cheaper

A generic 4 wire lambda sensor will work fine, but you need to splice it to the loom and plug from your old one.
Your ICV will probably respond to a good clean. If not, try a second hand one. One of the great things about a 'quality' vehicle like an E30, is that there are very few 'weak points' where a failed component is also likely to have failed on scrap cars as well.
