widest tyres/rims under stock e30 arches?
Moderator: martauto
The widest rims i've got on a normal E-30 was my Brock C1's. They were 16x9j running 225/40/16 or you could go 225/35/16. The widest rims i got on my M3 was 10x17 rears and 9x17 fronts. The fronts running 225/35/17 and the rears were 245/35/17 i think

45 profile is quiet high. Especially with 17" wheels. If you were running 16's, then i'd say "Yeah maybe" but i'm not sure now. Normally, the bigger your wheels, the lower profiles you will have to go on the tyres. Good luck anyway

215/40's are slightly smaller than original diameter
215/45's are slightly bigger...
Im goin with the slightly bigger to get a slightly better ride - nothing in it for price
Most of your ride quality will come from your suspension setting though and not your tyre profile. I'm running 275/35/18's on my rears at the mo and the quality of my ride is lovely because of my coil-over settings. I use to run 315/40/17's last years and you cant tell the difference

I am running 225/45-16zr Toyo T1r's on the back with huge clearance and dropped 35mm. I do have the wrong offset ie 40 and have posted a question about this-hope this helps , The wheels would suit the car better if I take them out but proper spacers are going to cost a fortune.

i'm running 7.5j17 bk 171's with odd offsets and am having scrubbing problems.
i have:
215/45/17's on ET20 (with a 3mm spacer) on the front. -60mm ish. scrubs the arches and the arch liner.
225/45/17's on ET38 on the rear. -40mm ish. scrubs the inner arches and arch lips even after modification.
that said, i think the offssets on my wheels are a little out of the ordinary!

im dropping my 325i sport on tuesday 60mm with a spax package top adjustables, do you think ill be ok with 215/40/17's? sorry to jump in on the post but nobody had really helped up to yet, nice motors by the way (all ov the above)
from my research the conclusion is that allthough two tyres have the same dimension lets say 205/55-15, the two dimensions 55 and 15 on all brands is the same but the third can differ from brand to brand. Thats why a certain tyre can be fitted and the other not. Anyway I heard noboby complain with the 215/40-17 dimension, problem should arise with the 205 /45-17, other tyres will fit and other not. My car is still in the garage so I have not changed tyres yet, but have a look on the lenso eagle rim which is 16'' and has the correct ET
I'm running 215/40/17's on 7.5 x 17 Azevs with no probs at all. Car is lowered by 40mm. Having had 205/40/17's before, I will stick with the 215's from now.
Thankgod for all the negative camber at the rear tho, if the wheels were straight I doubt they'd go under the rear arches at all.
Will be dropping the front to by 60mm soon, but I have no worries that will work, plenty of space up front

hey thought i would tag this on to the above thread as it is kind of similar. Just thinking of getting some borbet a's and was wondering if the 16x9 fit on the back with out any mods? I was planning on having the 16x7.5's on the front and so i assume that these need no mods?
thanks

255/40-17 is about the biggest in the back
for 255/40-17 on "17x10 you will need proper rolling and little flaring maybe, as well as stiff suspension and proper offsett.
something in the region of ET15 will work.
