Simon, Don't you dare give up on this car! I'll see if I can have a chat with a few places I know around here. Yes it's miles from you but it's means to an end and all that.
Are you joining us at Lakeside this month (19th) If so I will bring the stickers.

Si. I'm sure Barry will come true on this one. If we were in the same boat we'd be p1ssed off an all. It will be the bollocks when it's finished. I'm eager to see it finished......but probably not as eager as you are matey.
B7's Motto. "If it's French, BURN IT!!!!!!"
If it were down to me the car would be sitting in simons garage rust free and freshly painted but it is out of my hands and all i can do is keep on at the powers that be.
There are two more Zoners here who can paint cars properly - Beardymat and Ben in Clacton. The latter isn't toooo far away and in either case you've only got to look at their cars to see what you're going to get. Southways in Wembley are pretty good too.
The golden rule of bodyshops - more more expensive they are, the more shite the work. It's the smaller places with guys who appreciate old cars and what they mean to you that do the best paint. You should see the shite I've had done in the past by VBRA cowboys.
Alpina blue or Carbon black. Sod that Diamond blandness! (Blandschwartz)

Carbon black is nice.............
.........but picture opening the bonnet and seeing lovely laquered Alpina blue inner wings contrasting with a minty engine with all new anodised nuts and bolts.
Imagine it Si. A bare shell is a canvas to create something that's not merely nice, but show stopping. A Diamond black C2 won't stand out at Gaydon no matter how shiny it is, but a 'Pinablau one most certainly will.

I have to totaly dissagree with you there Andy. I've found that the "golden rule" with most things especialy bodywork is that you get what you pay for. Sure the are some specialists or enthusiast own/run smaller body shops that turn out fine work but generally smaller " back street" bodyshops turn out sh1t. This is not to say bigger ones are immune from crap but i guess alot of it is down to the individule doing the work to put the effort in to make it nice.Andyboy wrote:The golden rule of bodyshops - more more expensive they are, the more shite the work. The 2 guys who will be doing the work to to simons shell are both enthusiats and good friends of mine.
Adam the painter is regarded as the best painter out of the 5 that work for us, he is a total car nut through and through, has owned several E30's including a motorsport convertible, my sport and currently a 318is along with a mint MK 1 Escort Mexico and an early mini cooper he's restoring.
Gary the panel guy is a bit of a bike nut but also has a very straight mk1 Golf with custom bodywork mods done to a tastefull and high standard.
Both guys are time served and know what they are doing, they did the panel and paint on my sport and im fussy who i let touch my cars as i would prefer to do all work myself but alas i dont do panel or paint.
The problem we are having with the car comming to us is a logistical one. Our recovery truck is out of action due to some ministry of transport red tape crap that i know little about that was affecting its ability to pass its first MOT. This has seriously f8cked with our collection and delivery service. Simon is not exactly round the corner from us.
This will be sorted in the next week.

Why not just arrange for a 3rd party to make the collection, this really is dragging on and dont want to see any fall outs here.bss325i wrote:I have to totaly dissagree with you there Andy. How about asking on here if anyone has a big tow car and hire a trailer for the day. Trailor hire ain't that dear and I'm sure someone on here would lend themselves and there 4x4 nastiness for a few hours. The cars totally stripped and so weighs f*ck all now so towing it with a large car wouldn't cause any weight issues. I used to have use of a Shogun, If I still had that option I'd have been there like a shot.
Bodyshops? MMMMmmmmmmm. Worms / cans spring to mind. I've had excellent work done by guys in their garage. At the same time I've had atrocious work done by major insurance backed repairers. So bad I refused the car back....for good! However, I have had work done by Barrys Croydon Massive and I have to say it is top quality.
At the end of the day, it's all down to whos pulling the trigger on the devilbiss and wearing the mask on the day!

A trailer down my way costs £25 + vat + straps for a 24 hr period, but thats with a bit of discount. I'm sure for a round £50 and a zoner thats local with a towbar it could be sorted? By the time its all finished, the companies recovery truck might be back in action??

You cannot seriously be saying it got painted and there's no pix!
There should have been pix on here before the painter took his mask off.
