karan's got an s38, the e34 m5 engine. It can be described as a 24V M version of the m30, although I don't think they share much in common.
I am not the first one to do a 340... but certainly the only one fool enough to hope to be able to register it (read get it road legal) in Switzerland...

A good starter guide to all things BMW, especially engine and body codes
HERE
BMW got over 700 bhp out of the M30B35 (fitted to the late CSL and running two huge KKK turbos

)

You can take over 1000bhp out of almost any 6-cyl BMW engine (M20, M30, M50, S38, S50) - it's all been done already.
Anyways, M30 or M50 swap are the cheapest, S-swaps are way more expensive.

cheapest option will be to buy a complete car so you have the engine, gearbox, loom ecu etc then break the rest and sell it to recoup a bit of the cost which is what were gonna be doing for my cabby you sllllaaaaaaaaaaaggg

Of course it's very expensive, 10k┚¬ at least.
Anyways,
www.pure-pf.com is worth checking, lots of beemers, almost all of them punch 500-800hp, few even +1000bhp
