How do you 'lift' the storage panel on a soft top with out power to the car?. There is a cab in the breakers near me, the roof is up and i want to gain access into where the roof normally stores away to access some of the bolts in there... but i can't see how to lift the panel with out destrying it! which i don't want to do as it's mint...
cheers

There is no handle! but there are gear box motors in the boot... i thought only the early cabs had interior release handles? this is a '93 cab
Just had a thought.... if this was a manual roof car would there still be any motors in the boot visible?

if there is no handle it is electric
you have to disengage the motors - access is in the boot; it's kind of difficult to explain how... you move a lever on each motor and the lid should open easily
what colour is the car?

Cheers for the info! i managed to fiddle with the drivers side motor and it disengaged, but i could not see what to do with the motor in the middle... oh it's light metallic green, was in nice condition, but had a hard spank to the drivers front

cool - right look at the boot picture - see on the central motor housing within the small rectangular hole there is a metal tube?
that disengages the hood-lid motor; can't remember if you push or pull...
where is this car please?

I'm going to grab the motors whilst they are still there
The hood is holed at the back, and the rear window is cloudy and split, i assume the frame is also bent, this car has had a serious whack... the photo's don't show how bad the floor / transmission tunnel is...
oh the car is at Trents in Poole

too far away for me
be careful taking the main motor out
hexagon screws - I think 4 and accessed from the top
make sure you take the main rod connector off first - that main rod (mostly round but a flat bit) is over 30 GBP from BMW
it'd be well worth taking everything from under the flap; someone will want them

Right i'm back from the breakers...
Big up to orangecurry i popped off the centre motor and was able to lift open the lid
I got the motors, gearboxes, connecting rods, bootlid struts, boot trim, and a few odds and sods for good money, i'm well chuffed!
Now just need a cab
E30Adam & his lovely girlfriend (With a equally lovely motorsport) are having one of the motors, hope to get her hood working properly... the rest will be up for grabs!
Ziggy, there is a boot lid strut here with your name on it too!
It was just luck i found this cab, popped in Saturday for a bit for the g/f Rover, and there was this cab! I just hope no one was driving it at the time of impact, it's a right mess inside.

err well I wouldn't put it quite like that erm ahh look at that interesting thing over there
well sort of - I write stuff for websites, so it's my PC and my connection but someone else is paying me in a 'lump-sum for doing it' sort of way
if the breakers are not too expensive, I'd grab anything left of the interior; the rear speaker covers for instance; easy to post on Ebay

looking at the colour i would say you have a 318 design motorsport edition cab its colour should be neon green metalic they are one of the last made and are a special edition in a limited number made .... i have one in neon blue they came with recaro interior black wth a neon green diagonal stripe mtec 2 steering wheel and gear nob also had 15inch bbs wheels someone said that either 200 or 500 were made as a end of line run with all the extra bits added definately a good find
