how much power and torque do these put out?

In 1987 the 324td was introduced. It had a
six cylinder diesel engine with turbo wich now had 115 HP... is quoted on this page

324d - 112ft.lb
The td does 0-60 in about 12 seconds, whilst the non turbo d is about 16 seconds. Popular taxis in their Fatherland.

Well yes, but these are from the days when people bought diesels simply for their economy. There's plenty of them still about in Germany sporting galactic mileages. The td wasn't a bad car at all for its time.

I bet if we put a huge turbo up you, you'd fly too.
Old diesels are nothing like mdern super efficient units. They are generally bomb proof and reasonably economical for what they are though.

They used the 2 litre petrol block. Chrome bumper cars used the old mechanical injection, plastic bumper ones used the E34 diesel engine with Bosch DDE (Digital diesel electronics).
They were a very good engine for the time, and made the Mercedes 240D look pretty crap.
Best was the E38 740d, a twin turbo V8 diesel. BMW built @1500 of them just to beat Mercedes to it.

i had a 316 carb sold it a few month ago, there 90bhp and iirc do 106mph and 0-60 in 11.9 seconds so there a lump faster
