That is a vacuum hose from the inlet manifold to the Fuel Pressure Regulator. that said i dont know why it wont tick over with it connected, I would imagine its been pulled off to compensate for some other failed or misadjusted component, No doubt someone with much more knowledge will be along soon. 8)

maxlee! fancy seeing you this side of town! :D
yeah thats the fuel pressure regulator vac pipe. put it back on! unless its split and petrol comes out of it when you suck on the little pipe, its not your problem.

This is probably spot on!
Nothing should be touched in an E30, when starting it, other than the key.
As for what the real fault is; probably a combination of many things. I presume you relatively recently bought the car like this, and, frankly, if the previous owner was capable of bodging like this, you'll probably find the maintenance and servicing schedule sadly lacking as well

well i like it anyway. :D

if you have to have your foot on the throttle that would say that theres too much fuel going in. or not enuf air.... so you need your foot on the throttle to let more air in? does the icv buzz when the ing. is on but car not running? also id have a look into the blue temp sensor bein faulty. check the resistance thru it with it unplugged cold, warm and hot.
but that pipe is supposed to be on! i take it there isnt any fuel coming out of the little pipe bit on the regulator? :?

yep not long had the car last owner had it for 10years and kept lots of bill's etc looking closer but you always do on a new car 5 years down the line it starts to be come a shed i gess :( dose look like he has looked after it as the body work etc is verry good apart from to places.. the pipe may have broke off what ever as it is / was in to bits with the pipe off i just turn the key and it turns over 3 times and bang of it goes

so let me get this right with that pipe off fuel is ment to be coming out

no, no fuel is supposed to come out of that pipe! but the vacumm in the inlet manifold is supposed to be felt at the regulator, effecting the fuel pressure, for different running conditions. when that regulator splits petrol does come out of the pipe and is sucked into the inlet manifold, massivly over-fueling. if the pipe is off all the time the fuel pressure in the rail will be fixed all the time and too high aswell.

it made me look like a right t*at 2day my firned come round i explaned things to him he put the pipe on and it run and started no difrent to when it was off :? so not sure his idea was to claen out all the intake system and replace the air intake hose (big one with idal control valve fitted) as that had some cracks/splits in it if you looked closely so if my white one dont sell on ebay

If your air intake hose is split - replace it.

My 320 ran faultless apart from a really rough idle. Idle speed was fine but the engine sounded like it was about to stall. Checked the intake hose and low and behold it had a split where it attaches to the AFM. Split was underneath so couldn't see it when it was on the car.

Put a brand spankers one on and its like a different car. Can balance a 50p on its edge on the intake manifold now. Purrs like a kitten.
