I've been given 2 conflicting pieces of advice about getting a replacement AFM for my car (M40 316i)

The first is that I must have the correct part number in order for it to work properly.

The second is that it doesn't matter what part number it is as long as the AFM came out of another M40 316i.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

It would be better if you you could find one with the same part number as your existing one.

However, I've been looking on the parts catalogue and all 316i M40's seem to have the same part number anyway :D
