Temperature guage oil or water??

My oem temperature guage on my rally car has given up so i am going to buy an aftermarket stack one, i was just wondering which is more important to know, the oil temperature or the water....

I presume it is the oil temperature but i thought i would make sure.....

Oil pressure is a worthwhile investment, or get a oil pressure/temp combined

On the water temp, why not just stick a new instrument clucster in, they are peanuts

Yeah but i am not convinced it is the dash because i have tried 2 sets of clocks and it didn't work on either.....

Oil pressure is too expensive for now...

How would i fit an oil temperature sensor, would it be a sump plug jobbie??

Ok, i have phoned demon theives and they have confirmed that i use the same point as the oil pressure warning light uses?

So from this point i can run an oil pressure guage and an oil temp gauge with a t piece, is this correct?

Does anyone know what thread the oem oil pressure guage uses in the m20 lump?

Best not to use a tee piece for an oil temp sensor. Not going to give you a good (accurate) reading as they are better in the flow of oil (same as the water). Have you got an oil cooler? I cut into the hose that feeds to the coole and put a MOCAL sender housing in that. Figured the oils at it's hottest on the way to the cooler so best off there.

M12 x1.5 iirc for the oil pressure sender. You might need and adaptor for the stack one as there 1/8npt I think.

Might have a few knocking about. Have got a LMA tee piece that you could use with a blanking plug or just use the old press sender and not connect it. It's 1 m12x1.5 male with 1 m12x1.5 female and 1 1/8npt female. I'm off down the work shop in a bit so I'll dig out what I've got and let you know.

I do have an oil cooler but it is something i was thinking about relocating because being a rally car it is going to see a front end smash so the last thing i want is to spill oil all over the road!

But a good idea, how do these MOCAL Sneder housings work?

Thanks for your help mate, but don't worry about the t piece because if it is not the best place to fit it i don't want to do it!

Ok but I have a couple of m12x1.5 to 1\8npt adaptor bushings that you'll need for oil pressure. Yours if you want them?

I'll take some pics and post here later. I'll take some snaps of what I've done to the dash if you want?

If your relocating your oil cooler with new lines you could get the threaded ends to make a nice secure fit. Jubilee clips have stayed tight and dry so far though.

i have just got a oil temp gauge and was trying to find some where to put it and couldnt lol . i have a oil cooler but dont really fancy chopping up the pipes is it really that inacurate to use a t-piece where the oil pressure swich is and where can i get a t-piece to use the temp gauge and switch

cheers
