This is always the problem. As enthusiasts we can spend Ԛ£000s sorting out our rides and we never think about the consequences when it comes to selling as it's something that just doesn't seem to register.
As a straight financial transacation, you'd be mad to buy a car for say Ԛ£5K and then spend Ԛ£5-10K doin' it up and then selling it for less than you bought it as most mods don't attract a premium over the purchase price as it's an individual thing. Plain madness but we don't seem to be in it for the money.
Like you all, I've lost Ԛ£000s
over the years on mods on minis, rice rockets, beemers etc. but we still carry on. Our cars almost always stand us in for more than we paid for them - except the odd one who has picked up a bargain.
Not sure where this is going but I guess one day I will draw the line and get a car that goes from A to B and is loaded with all the 'toys' and mods so I cannot possibly add anything. The thing is, what car is that???

This is hard to believe, but i worked out the other day that i've lost nearly Ԛ£100k on cars going back to the last 15 years when i got my 1st ride. I've never left a car i've own alone, from my 1st all white Fiesta XR2, to having a Dimma kitted Pug 205 to several M3's and i've lost heavily on every single one of them. I even sold an M-Tec 2 cab on a H Plate with only 2 owners for Ԛ£1,500 a couple of years ago cause someone cut my roof off and stole my ICE. I regret it so much now, because a friend of mine was always telling me to invest all that money in property, but i was too busy posing. Now i fell like
when i go to see him in his new Ԛ£500,000 house behind a gated development on a Golf course in Epsom and i see his X5 and Porsche Boxter parked in the drive. He also has 2 other luxtury apartments that he's rented out. All this and the fcuker is only 25 years old. Saying all that it still didn't stop me from spending over Ԛ£30k on the Rieger did it? When ho when will we learn

You need to see Dales in the flesh to really get the idea.....it is really a race bred animal more than anything and fook me does it go some, can't imagine what the 2.7 goes like....
The noise, the look, the overall finish of the car is very good, just so sad Dales selling it.....
Not one for all of the zoners....but it is a awesome e30.....

The starting bid is Ԛ£7k, but i know Dale spent arounf Ԛ£15k on it. The engine bay alone must have a few Ԛ£grands worth of bling. The wtare bottle alone is about Ԛ£1k from mirage, then you have all the other replacement bits.
Chaos Dales car is completly different from mine too. Like Fozzy say's it's a pure race beast, whereas mine is more show than go. Unfortunatly, by personilising your cr too much, you drastically reduce your market, hence my point about the type of person who will want the car is not likely to have the sort of money Dale will be looking for.
I'm wondering if he'd be better off breaking the car and selling the bits seperatly then i can have the engine and bling bits and Noz

Sadley I agree with Ben, breaking may be the only way to get most of the cash back. There are so MANY good parts on that car, the dbilias are nearly Ԛ£2k plus setting up, the MBE is Ԛ£1.5k + mapping etc...and the Ԛ£1k washer bottle!!
For the Ԛ£15k spent, and I remember when we first met Dale he was saying he had a budget of Ԛ£15k to spend, I'd also start at Ԛ£7k.......
And just so everyone is aware, this thing will keep up if not beat a E36 M3 evo and that was with the 2.5 in!!
I tried to race him home from Lakeside one meet and I'd lost sight of him before we got onto the A12 and I don't drive slow.....but that thing is v-very quick.

It's that big bottle of Noz as well. The problem these day's is that you can buy a lot of car for not a lot of money, so when people see an old car like the E30, they want to pay silly money regardless of what's been spent or done to it. I think Jason's cae only went for around Ԛ£8k and that's with a 3.2 Evo lump, new respray etc and it was a cab too. I'll keep an eye on it and see what sort of attention it gets. I just hope he doesn't get any time wasters, cause there's nothing worse than those when you're already trying to come to terms with having to sell your baby and taking a huge loss too

taking out the expensive bits and putting it to back closer to standard is prob the way to go.
back when i had the pulsar thats what a fair few ppl did with seriously modded ones when it came time to sell.

I also think, especially with ebay, the way it is advertised, especailly the photo's count for a lot.
I think will's m50 could have gone for a lot less if it wasn't so well advertised

I'll take the engine management system
As for spending Ԛ£000's on our cars, you need to look at it in the simplist fashion: It's our hobby (expensive to some, but not all) hence why we do it, for enjoyment and to get the best out of it.
Now look at other hobbies; motorcross, karting, horse-riding etc. see where i'm goin with this
As for the ebay auction, sorry to sound negative, but look at Jayson's cab, a claimed Ԛ£19k spent on it. Faster than this one due to the 3.2 evo engine, brand new respray, and looked very subtle (not plain, not OTT) and only sold for less than Ԛ£7k.

I kinda treat my cars as a hobby rather than an investment, for instance I've spent over Ԛ£10K on the GT6 and I don't envisage finishing it this side of 50
The total spend on Brown will come to around Ԛ£5k I expect, which is madness when the car cost Ԛ£275 in the first place
My boss keeps asking why I spend so much on cars, I answered that it was no different to him spending masses on DVDs, jeans and trainers

Agreed Turbo. My problem is i spend a small fortune on DVD's, have over 50 pairs of trainers (Most still in theri boxes), electronic gadgets and so forth so i think mine's an Illness.
Now coming back to Dales car, i do agree that he'd probably be better off putting mist of the standard things back on the car, selling the car for as much as he can get, then making up the shortfall by selling all the other bits seperatly to me
He will get a lot more for them seperatly, than he will if he sold them on the car. Saying that, it's a big job changing all the stuff back to standard and it must be hard especially after so much work has gone into ,aking it look good, to then have to rip it all apart. Ho well, i'll be interested to see how much it goes for.
