removing tree sap from paintwork

please help. missus left the car under a tree despite my best efforts to educate her that this is a massive no-no. well point is the only way that i know to get rid of the tree sap that's well and truly stuck itself to all of it is severe inch-by-inch rubbing with plenty of soft cloths and polish. is there an easier way that anyone can enlighten me with please?

I use Meguiars quick clay to remove all the baked on crap of the paintwork, comes up a treat and is easy to use.

A decent jet wash should b good enough if it dont get it all off then use a small amount of G3 compound on a cloth. that will shift the last of it

jet wash wont get off tree sap - i couldnt even polish it off my old cav, it was well and truely on there

i'd try claying it 1st n then going from there

I've got that problem... every time I polish it I pick a little more of gently with a nail... I've got loads and loads of tiny little bits... not too noticable really.. but then my car is black!!

You could try washing your car with a pair of old tights,I do this to get rid of flies,works a treat and doesn't seem to leave any kind of "swirl" marks in the paint work.
I would try a small area first on yours as you have one of the worst colours for showing "swirling".
I have washed plenty of cars this way and have never had a problem,but what you do get is effortlessly clean paint work without chemicals.

Paul,
DO NOT use G3 to remove sap, it is far to coarseand would damage that beautiful paint on your car.

I take mine down to the valet place and part with a tenner and then complain that it's not clean.
You then sit back and watch them sweat over it.

yes it removed the sap a treat. the paint is probably smoother than it was before if that's possible. it took only a short time too.

the clay went pretty brown and i found it quite difficult to keep tearing and folding it to find white areas but i didn't use so much of the spray. i could do with buying just some clay to keep for the future....

having never used clay before - astounded is the right word.

Wierd... it actually is like clay stuff!!!!! i assumed it would just be like a thick polish!!!! I'll get some at the weekend!!

white sprit works a treat and it does'nt harm the paint work trust me

clay is amazing
people continually astounded at what a difference it makes
used a lot in body shops in usa to remove overspray which it does very very effectively

many places sell clay now

secret is to use loads lubricant and stop clay from snagging "dry" paint

and as has already been said to keep turning and folding the clay as contaminates are collected on clay surface
