is the internals of the diff the same in all these forgive my lack of knowlage on this! i know there are different size casings etc but if i got a very cheap 525i sport lsd (bin offerd one for £20 at local breakers as he dont know its a slipper and dont really care lol) could i take the lsd part out (or the whole internals) and build into the correct size casing for my car? i am looking at doing this for my e30 320i and maybe a e36 325i allso what should be looked at or inspected when rebuilding into new case etc? any information would do thanks! is the slipper part in the diff the bit that sets the ratio or just the bit that enables it to lock?

It is a 188 diff so take it. For E30 you only need to change back plate. E36 have different casting but you can use internals.

BMW is makeing three types of diffs: small case - 168, medium case - 188 and big case - 210.
And I just realised that I made mistake. I understand that this 525i is E34 not E28. Then you can use only the LSD. The case is different.

Yes and no. You really need to know what you are doing. LSD have nothing with diff ratio so the ratio will be the same.

^^

if your asking for pics, my guess is that it would be best to send to a specialist.

sorry if it was unhelpful but diff rebuilds are expensive for a reason.
