Hard to start when 'warm': '89 325i Touring

Greetings again from Canada...

I've had this problem on/off for months...now the past week the 'warm start' issue is back. It's rather odd...fires right away when cold, then if you drive for say 1/2 hour then stop, leave for 1/2 hour it will be 'difficult' to start (engine turns over for 10-15 sec's then starts just b/f it sounds like it might just die...) I've heard bad 'coolant temp sensor' from a number of sources now.....

This 'intermittent' issue continues to baffles me...

just as a guess (not 100% sure this is accurate)

blue temp sensor
brown sensor
new coolant and flush
icv cleaned or replaced
air intake hose replaced
afm recon.
fuel rail line checked (dodgy jubilee clip)


not sure if is what u need, but it couldnԚ´t hurt

What are the spark plugs looking like? If they are sooted then it is an over fueling issue. Had the economy gone bad?

I had something like this but it was a gradual decline until it, an auto, started stalling at traffic lights. My problem was a dead fuel pressure regulator.

Have a bit of a search around for a check list, as i think my problem can be quite rare, but our cars are late teens so rubbery diaphams etc can and will perish.

Thanks for the reply(s). I'll pull out a plug to check out what's happening. I did recently have the intake manifold gasket(s) replaced as they were 'seriously deteriorated', leading to a very rich mixture. Could have fouled the plugs over time. Fuel economy has been gradually declining as well.

That tune-up/check-up, as you say johnono, couldn't hurt as well....

:yeahthat: a tuneup and plug replacement makes some difference

Of course the first thing you should do is replace the air filter as a clogged air filter would give the problem of being hard to start when hot.
