hi guys,

i have recently purchased a six branch manifold from Hot tuning as advised by fellow members of E30 zone community.

i got an exhaust specialist to put the new manifold on to the car expecting the exhaust note to be alot more grunty and to my surprise it was alot louder when i had the stock manifold on the car??

the mid section and back box are already stainless steel. My old e30 320i had a full system including a 6 branch manifold which sounded amazing. i thought this being a 325i should have sounded even better.

The engine does seem to however be running alot smoother on idle and i think it is breathing alot better too. Power increase wise it may have increased by a few BHP but nothing to sing and dance about unfortunately. Also between 2-3rpm there is quite a loud tappit noise coming from the manifold. I say it sounds like tappits but the engine is smooth sounding and was not like this before the pipe was fitted.

Can anyone please shed some light on this situation for me as i have shelled out almost £320 for this install and am not too pleased with the outcome. Any advice will be greatly apreciated.

thanks

Surj

having read your post i can't see what you are complaining about...its quieter and runs better..and a manifold has no effect on the tappets anyway... :poke:

Tappet noise could possibly be theexhaust blowing - did you replace the gaskets? and I know the stud at the rear can be a right pain to tighten up so are there any loose?

If your not feeling a considerable difference in performance over 3500 rpm then there is either something wrong with the install or the manifold.

Yes new gaskets were applied before installing the new manifold. i will check the nuts to ensure they were tightened sufficiently.

What i dont understand is why the exhaust tone has become quieter than it was before. fare enough i understand the 6 branch manifold is supposed to help exhaust gas's move more quickly which i know has resulted in an increase in performance, but surely the exhaust raw should have stayed the same if not better than when the manifold was stock?????

nothing is really going to happen on a standard engine though
