You can butcher a prop to fit quite easily and get it balanced cheaply. But depends on the box being used as fowler says.

if its the e36 box then 328i prop or e30 m3 or chopped
if its the e30 box then the matching prop

a custom prop can be fabricated and balanced for about a ton.

525i sport, that will be a ZF box. You will need either an E30 M3 prop or have one made using any E30 prop and the front half of a prop with the larger size of flange

agreed with dan the 328i prop is the besty way but then you will have to change the final drive ratio
You can use a an 30 325i box yes i know it will a bit pissed by 20 odd degrees but then you can use an e30 prop and diff might be worth tweaking the gear selecta to
before the doubter's begin
The e30 box can be fitted !!! Seen it done
ecah mehtod is ok
oh I have a diff that you require if you use the E36 328I prop you will ideallly need a 3.25:1 i have one if you are interested
Pm for a Price..

Its the choice of gearbox that determines what diff is needed, not the prop - I realise what you were saying, but just wanted to clear up any confusionfowler wrote: oh I have a diff that you require if you use the E36 328I prop you will ideallly need a 3.25:1
1992 525i's had a 3.23:1 ratio diff, so the 3.25:1 mentioned above will be fine.

Can the M42 gearbox be used with the standard E30 325i propshaft and not have to fabricate a new gear linkage (or did I just dream that???)?
Whats this about fitting the E30 centre bearing the worng way round Dan? I knew you could use the 328i prop with an E30 centre bearing, just not the specifics..... I thought it'd be easier than finding an E30M3 one and then replacing the centre bearing anyway (so as to 'service' it). I ask because I'll be using the 5 speed E36M3 box and need a bigger flange...
