Is the E30 318 engine exactly the same as the E36 318 engine (8v). The inlet looks different etc on the E36 one but If I used all my parts from my E30 engine would it be a straight swap?
Thanks

There was 2 different 318 8v engines in the e36, M40 and M43. The M40 should be a straightish swap. Do you know what year the car is?
The M43 is the successor to the M40 and has quite a few differences http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M43

It would be an early E36 so guessing still the M40 engine. Will check.

According to wiki the M43 is chain driven so should be easy to tell
