I posted up a while ago about this and i put it to the garage as i hadn't a clue. They couldn't find anything either as it stopped making the noise...however. Its back.

Heres the symptoms:

Knocking noise coming from drivers rear
Only happens when in gear and driving, if you let off it goes away i think
If i sit parked up and use the clutch to bump forward or back then it makes the noise.

Theres a series of things it could be? driveshafts? Diff bush? centre bearing? Cv joint? Wheel bearing?

Heres the video:

Anyone any ideas?

Any help much appreciated.

Sounds to me like possibly a CV joint, it seemed to be occurring exactly 1x per turn of the wheel indicating a problem between diff output & roadwheel as opposed to anything inside or befor the diff in the drivetrain which would happen more often, if you understand what I'm trying to say... :? Either way, I'd be looking at all the components that rotate with the right rear wheel.

If that noise it indeed once, per turn of the wheel, I'd be taking off the rear drum for an inspection.
Non standard wheel bolts?

Oh yes, dont be fooled by the hex heads looking the same, I have found BMW bolts that are approx 3mm longer than the standard E30 type

I took some aftermarket alloys off an E30 breaker last week, and used two of the bolts to refit a steel wheel in one of their places (just to keep the shell mobile), and the hub jammed up.

i know this might sound stupid did you get new tyres lately or a puncture repaired
it could be when the tyre was off something might of fallen back into the tyre while refitting it like a balance weight or something.thus making that nosie. or you might just have a screw are big nail stuck in the tyre.
i work in the tyre game and have seen it loads of times. jack up the back and spin the wheel by hand and check of something stuck in the trye.
