This BMW 2002 Turbo is being sold as it is with all it's good and bad points, we will not be carrying out any work so please do not ask (our workshops are booked for 3 months),
I know GOOD independant body shops are often busy and booked up well in advance but this just makes me think their estimates of bodywork required are well off if they arn't willing to do the work even if the customer will wait, whats the problem.

Indepentantly owned businesses like he makes his sound would relish an oppertunity like this normaly, unless they know it won't make them anything, could cost too much or will be too much trouble.
325i Tech 1 Touring, breaking.

2.5 high comp. M20, 3.64 LSD, Fully undersealed, Spax springs & Bilstein shocks, s/s exhaust, Alpina rep wheels and more.

It'll be the fastest, most expensive rust-bucket ever - if you can get the engine unseized

What a shed. Makes me want to weep - ah to hell with it

That looks regrettably like very expensive landfill to me.

I wouldn't even try and restore that.

yeah problem is a fully legal reshell requires Q plating the car, unless you plan on lying to DVLA and VOSA.

Looks like expensive scrap to me, body is nearly beyond worth saving and the engine is seized! if the engine ran it might be worth saving but not as it is.

The turbo shells ARE different. Besides where are you going to find a nice replacement shell for a 35 year old car? Jaymic used to import nice LHD cars from So Cal and give them a few mods and chip them on to new RHD owners in the UK, none of this Q plate business.

To give you an idea, Jaymic who are the UK, if not worldwide 2002 specialists, recently sold a 2002 turbo as a kit, it was a failed restoration project but everything was there including a freshly and properly repaired shell. Even the original Scheel Recaro trim was intact. That car sold for £7k and needed an awful lot less than this one does.

I'd rather buy a nearly mint unrestored example for £20k+ and have the joy of owning it without feeling guilty about using it.

With only 1670 odd being built they are something special but at what cost?

I hear you Barry but this one is a big ask. A lot of the bits were turbo specific and are NLA from anywhere on the planet. Sure there are some bits around but you're talking proper money to have stuff fabricated or sourced.

A lot of aggro for what is essentially a 35 year old LHD car.

To be honest, you never reshell an 02 Turbo who is genuine! If you do that, you are food for Taliban and I mean that! Those cars in good nick fetch much higer prices than a E30 M3 to an example... God I like it!

The real problem here is the long period of storage. The shell is well rusty and will need complete rebuilding. Every bit of rubber will need replacing.... may make a doner for a sound car that is tatty round the edges.

a lot of businesses arent interested in long term projects like this but only seem to want quick turn over stuff or insurance work.

Guy with the 2002 also has this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3DS%252BI

Looks a bit choppy for a poor spec. Good mileage though.

The only problem with having more than one BMW is you have to make a choice of which one to be buried in.
