Hi all,
Here is my side of the story, I am glad it does seem to have been a storm in a teacup, as they say.
I was called and told that there was a problem with some of the posts on the BMWCC website in that if someone invites others to a meet of any kind, they were giving the impression it was a BMWCC sponsored event, and some were misunderstanding that it was a BMWCC event. Indeed I myself had invited people to the E30 meet last Sunday, and have in the past, and will in future take care with my wording, although I do not feel I have been misunderstood, or that I have given the impression that I represent the E30 zone, but just that I will be there, if others with the same interest would like to come along also.
The reason a person cannot mislead people is simply because the BMWCC is an organisation for which membership is paid, therefore it has rules and legal responsibilities and a member cannot lead people to believe they represent the organisation. Just like if you are in the AA, or bank with NatWest, you are a member but do not represent them.
(Possibly this is different with E30 zone, I do not know as I am not fully familiar with the management structure of the Zone)
Back to yeaterday, I was directed to Gaszmans post on the BMWCC site and told that was one of the ones in our area that was doing it. (There is another, but not E30 related) I know it is not uncommon for this to happen as there was a big problem last year when someone did post a meet giving the impression it was official. Many took it to be a sponsored event, and many calls were made to find out more. For some reason, that person was never traced or accounted for themselves (as far as I know) and the meet did not happen (again, as far as I know). (Please don't ask me why they could not trace him via his registration details, I don't know)
Once I saw Gaszmans posts I realised that I knew him, from E30 meets. (More on that later) I quickly logged onto this forum and this topic and read it and then rang back the BMWCC and told them one or two things said above which made it clear to me that Gaszman was under the impression that the Sherborne event is a BMWCC one and only wants to know what the score is this year. (Personally I feel that as he first asked in December, he has not been treated well by the BMWCC in that he deserved an answer more promptly)
I posted a quick post last night but was told not to say why he could not do it as the club were sorting it out. What they have done I, again, do not know, but I do know that the problem is solved as Gaszman and the area chairman - Keith - are talking on the BMWCC site and the event may now become sponsored, even if it does clash with a national event.
I now feel a bit misled by the BMWCC in that the problem was easy to solve by simply having a chat with the postee, in this case Gaszman, either on the forum, or by looking them up from their registration and ringing them. They gave me the inpression something sinister was afoot. That is possibly why my post reflects that.
As for my 'good advice' bit above, what I meant was that if you go as E30 then the BMWCC has no jurisdiction over you at all and whether they liked you being there or not, there was nothing they could do about it. Sorry if it caused offence or upset.
The reason I am on the Zone is not because I have an E30, because as many are aware, I don't, but because I met some of them at a meet a year back and just tagged on to a few other meets since. Partially because there were not 5 series (or BMWCC) meets going on - and still are not much - and partially just to meet like minded BMW fans. I have taken some bitchy (and a couple downright offensive) comments from E30 drivers who thought I was 'not allowed' to be there, but they were fewer than those who made me welcome. (That is why I was not around at the end of last year much)
Anyway, plenty of reading there. Hope it clarifys things
Richard

Dont stress its not an issue....the CarClub and E30Zone both exist and will both exist for a long time to come so we both will work together...there are differences in some ways, but in most ways we are still car enthusiasts...so if you meet up with Jeremy and his crowd and the two groups can come together at shows like this it will only bode well for the future....Lets work together..not be worried about issues.
I am a carclub member and come on the Zone as do many other CarClub people....so lets forget any issues and have some great shows like Sherborne in 2008

I don't think you have anything to apologise for Dave. You just wanted to know about a show and when nobody told you anything, you went ahead by doing what many others have done in the past, organising a meet.
It was some of the BMWCC that misinterpreted what you said. I intend to have words with them idc, but for the moment, lets do what Cabrio says.
(I've put the date in my diary, (if 5s are allowed
) but it is too early to know if I will make it.)

Looking good then. Sorry about not calling you last night Richard, had to go out as you knew, and had problems before I went. About tonight if any good.
Would love to know who told you you weren't welcome at the meets, you've as much right to be there as anyone else. Hopefully see you at the next one - shifts permitting.

[quote="gaszman"]This thread has got cold, so come on, it's a good day out. Put your god damned names on the list. We can take 20 cars.
Don't worry gazzman, it's quite a long way off, i'm sure you will fill the places
What about the man that comes to the Portsmouth Burger van meets in the mint M3, is he coming?

An E30 touring, two E28 M5's and an E28 528i.
IMHO it will be good if we could have a bigger variety of models, as it is not soley an E30 show; for example i happen to know that spook has his E28 528i that would not look out of place, don't think any other E28's are going.
I know Shane from the Brighton and Westerham meets has an E24 635csi, any 2002's (doesn't "OldSchool2002" have one?) just a suggestion really, not trying to Hijack ur thread

'Tis the 25th Anniversary of the E30 though, and we are the E30zone, so if we CAN fill our stand with E30s, so much the better. But I'm sure we can find room for a few others too though.
Lets do the Zone proud. Come on guys, we want another half dozen at least...

Fair comment Gordon, but i'm still taking my E3, it gives it a good long run and Bomber likes to see herGortour wrote:'Tis the 25th Anniversary of the E30 though, and we are the E30zone, so if we CAN fill our stand with E30s, so much the better.
