light flywheel, cams and custom map would be my list i reckon. would make for a great car with probably around 170bhp? or more

People have already suggested a remap. This has been suggested as the best value for money as the 318is

i cant see a re map at say £400 is gonna give much more gains then a £40 zone chip myself ?
You will get a gain! But maybe not much more at peak power. FWIW gains are to be had on light throttle positions, but this compromises fuel economy slightly.

If you are looking for a quick power increase on a budget, the £40 zone chip is most certainly the way to go, but speanding another £350-400 to get the little extra is possibly not worth while to most people.

I dont know why 200+ can't be had out the 318is in NA specs. I just mapped an Elise with a 1.8 K series engine on Emerald ECU. This came out at over 210BHP. Mind you, that was at 7800 RPM and is a Minister engine on throttle bodies. But a similar output must be achievable?

Do BBTBs do much?

I've read conflicting arguments about them doing loads to nothing at all.

I'd do BBTB and then thorough re-map but stick with stock filter/exhaust/cams.

From what i hear the answer is NO , a decent pannel filter will probally do more , however itb's will do more than them loool

Read many many reports of 'performance' filters actually restricting flow and losing power under proper testing.

well dont fit one then ,

Fit a new gen one then , most probally do the same , i think so i have been told by a friend of mine the inlet on a 318is is very well desighned , i am fitting itb's to mine along with other stuff but i think the itb's on there own would not do much , as the standard inlet is quite good along with the exhaust ,

like i say this is what i have been told by a friend of mine and i have no reason to doubt his knoladge , i think cams are the way to go .

Blimey, your car didn't have much power at the wheels then, mine is over 120bhp ATW in 4th gear. But this isn't bad power for a 318is  But Tim backed your figures up :?

That was on the same engine as the one thats in the car now so if its down on power then its down now so when i get my new one built up

The dyno was done in 3rd IIRC but the lad at the dyno was a nob, basicly said theres the dyno i'll be round the back welding. left us to work out were to strap the cars down and then told us that all the gass analasis equipment didn't work which was the main reason my freind booked the dyno!
