318is into a 316i

how easy (or hard) is this to do? i'm wanting to put a 318is engine into my 316i, would the diff need changing? and box? any advice woul;d be apprieciated

Better to have the whole 318iS to get all the parts from, which kills the idea in the first place.
Honestly mate, it's not worth the time or money - just get a 318iS and put the same time and money into making it sweet.
But for the record:
Engine + Loom
ECU
Coilpack (with bracket for it welded in the bay)
3.94 or 4.10 Diff as I'm sure the 316i is different.
Gearbox and prop - you may be able to use yours but you could drop the M42 in with gearbox attached.
Then the 318iS has MTEC suspension, bigger struts and disc all round etc...
Save yourself the hassle mate. Sorry to be a downer.

No, 316i runs a 4.1 diff also
the auto 4 pots run a 4.45
the auto 4 pots run a 4.45

as said tho.. just buy an iS.. ALOT less hassle for same £Â£

was playing with this idea for the other halfs cabby .. cant exactly buy a 318is cabby so might still do it

in a cabby or a touring its worth it (ish..) but a 'loon makes no sense

only thing thats really stopped me doing it so far is were wanting to keep it auto or i would have been looking at the m42 engine
