i was chatting to my mate tonight and as we have always been Ford nuts, but both love bmw's, we were wondering what sort of run for its money would a 325 sport give, say, a sapphire cossie?

both in standard states of tune.

What do you reckon?

Cosworth would win no contest both on 0-60 and top end - but then you would expect it to with approx 30bhp more and probably no real difference in weight.

I still want one but can't see me ever forking out for one.

cosworth all day. althought the cosworth and the m3 were similar in performance back in the day the cosworth was probably the better car to have if you were going to do a few little mods. 300bhp could be had with few mods. my mates dad who back in the 80's won the jersey rally 5 times in a row in a mk2 escort bought a brand new saph 4x4 cossie when the came out and he said it was great, but he now owns an e30 m3 and says he wished he had bought the m3 now instead of the cossie as its a much better car to drive. id rather have the m3 aswell.

i dont think standard v standard would give a serious spanking but the cossie would win it . future tuning potential is where the difference will be seen. why not combine them both? e30 wit cossie engine, the best of both worlds with the solid, well built ride of the e30 with the power of the cossie. 8)

I don't think a Cossi against a 325 sport is really a fair fight.

A Cossi against an M3 would be more like it imo.
And I know which would be the better car there winkeye

I think I'd still much prefer to own a 325 sport over a cosworth since the E30 looks so much better and you'll can drive an E30 on any occasion where you might look abit of a tool in a Cosworth in some situations.

Think Fussy finally has a thread where people can't disapprove of his chosen route now 8)

completely agree. You cannot compare these two cars. Different league altogether.

The cosworth is remarkable car and still very fast even by today's Japanese 300mph 16v twin cam turbo injected crap.

M3 yes so perhaps you may want to edit your heading.

the cars themselves are cr4p though. i know its an eighties car but the interior feels seventies and just so dated. on that score i side with the e30.

I said E30's can rust as badly as SIERRAS if not worse, not Fords in general.
Sierras are were built in Belgium not in England were they seemed to use water based tin for construction.

I've had many, many Ford's and quite a few E30s now to know where the rust hot spots are on them.

No rusty scuttles or sunroof trays on seirras.

Because sierras other than XR's and RS's are worth 50p where as E30's are worth more. Mechanicals last longer in E30's as well.

Hmmm Sierra cossie V's E30 325i sport.............

I know a guy with a nearly standard E reg 2wd cossie, We had a race last year, I was in my 325i sport............Lets just say i got well and truly spanked.

Cossie has 204bhp standard and E30 325i sport has 171bhp standard, Neither car are still going to be running at the stated power figures but the cossie is still going to be more powerful.

The guy actually wanted to swap his car for mine though, Ive always loved cossies but i couldnt bring myself to go through with the swap.
He still has the cossie coz i saw him in it last week, after not seeing him for ages.
