Can anyone help me? I am considering fitting an M50 2.5 24v into my E30. Do you have any advice on anypart of this that maybe useful? What about gearboxes, diffs, driveshafts, mountings etc.

Many thanks in advance

You might aswell stick in a 2.8 engine instead as its very easily tuneable to 230+ bhp

yeah but m52s cost a lot more than m50s, 525is been around since 1991ish and there's a lot kicking about as breakers, unlike 328is.

much better engines though i agree

Get your engine from an E34 525, rather than an E36.
It will have the correct sump and oil pick up pipe and a more suitable wiring loom, and other things being equal, should be cheaper and less thrashed than an E36.
You will still need the alloy engine mounts from an E36, and the E34 exhaust manifolds are useless, although a rear E36 one won't fit either without modifications.

M50 non vanos is a fantastic unit, its power output may not be big compared to the M52 but the way it delivered the power was just great! Altho regarding engine conversions most ppl agree its best to put the quickest block you can in it!

That's a good link, and details most of the things I worked out the hard way about 12 months ago.
Unfortunately, that's the easy bit. Problems arise because the steering gear, engine mount and exhaust manifold all want to occupy the same space on the offside, and the inlet manifold and brake servo on the nearside.
