The first run of the year by the BMW Club NE will be a trip to White Scar Caves near Ingleton, North Yorkshire on Sunday 16/03/08 - the weekend before Easter.

Leaving Washington services (southbound!) at 0900, we'll pick up at Middleton Tyas services (Scotch Corner). Leaving at 1000, we'll take the A66 as far as Brough. Turning off here, we'll head for Kirkby Stephen (stopping if anyone wants to) and then through the dales via Mallastang Common, Dent, Ribblehead Viaduct and Chaple-le-Dale to White Scar Cave.

Entry to the Cave is weather dependant - it does flood following heavy rain - so entry cannot be 100% guaranteed on the day and as some might find it too daunting, the visit is optional. The guided tour of the cave costs £7.50 per adult, £4.50 per child, but these will reduce to £6.20/£3.50 if the group is 12 or more. Price includes hire of a guide and lasts approximately eighty minutes, covering about a mile. Paths and lighting have been installed throughout the route, and the principal features of interest are floodlit. For much of the way, the path is made of open steel flooring, which enables visitors to see the underground stream flowing beneath their feet.

A pullover is recommended, as it is cool in the caves. High-heeled shoes are not suitable for the tour. Hard hats are provided. There are two low-roof sections and 97 steps.

If you have not been before, you really need to check out their website http://www.whitescarcave.co.uk/ and don't forget to turn your speakers on when you take the virtual tour.

No meal is being arranged, but there are plenty of town close by such as Ingleton and Settle.

I've tried to plan a mix of driving conditions, but the section from Kirkby Stephen to the cave should be the highlight.

Please sign up as soon as possible - don't forget we need more than 12 to get the discount on the admission prices.

Thanks,

Mick

That was quick Steve. I was just thinking about trying to come up with a way of twisting your arm and you've done it yourself.

Lakeside's this Wednesday if you can make it too!

I'm hopefull to be in my Baur, but it's just got back from another visit to the garage (5th time now) and it's still not right. :x

Grace is fine - loves everyone and everything - including the wallpaper in the hall, landing and stairs. Little sod. Just got a spray off Ebay - hopefully that'll fettle her!

How's Blue?

It's had a new oil pump fitted before Xmas, but the light was still on at tickover, so that was for free. Sump gasket then started leaking and also rear crankseal. I told him i wanted it fixed once and for all, so he's had it another 5 weeks and fitted new shells, bearings, and the seal and gasket. Went to Seaton Burn on Tuesday and the light's back on at tickover and I'm sure it was dropping oil at the shops yesterday. Need a quiet couple of hours with it to have a proper look and decide in my mind the next move.

Ric, it's doing my head in, just don't know what to do next.

Thanks Daz. There's 12 coming already - but less cars as some are passengers.

So far, there's 9 cars and 18 people, if everyone turns up.

I need to arrange the discount on the admission prices by Thursday, so if anyone else wants to come, can they let me know?

Thanks,

Mick

Sorry you can't make it Howard, we'll try to get some photos posted to show you what you've missed.

Steve, we've possibly got a Porsche and a Lexus coming, so even if you don't get HUI sorted, there's no problem.

Pete & Ric - if you come, will you be meeting at Scotch Corner Services?

I've spoken to WSC yesterday and because of the number of people we've got going, they're going to keep us together as one group with our own guide. The tour starts at 1300, which should give us ample time to get there.

One of the guys coming has pointed out that the weather's not going to be too bad - see here http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/cgi-bin/ ... G=citybild &WMO=u3214&LANG=en - so if anyone changes their mind and decides to come, that's fine - just let me know.

Thanks,

Mick
