I would say there are more cowboys in the building trade than in the motor trade.

boll0cks! i'd say the other way round. We chat this later!!

It's easier to find good trades than a good garage. I'd be lost if i wasn't into cars and knew the right people to help me when i needed it

although the influx of unqualified eastern europeans has probably tipped the balance against the building trade.

Dont get me wrong there are PLENTY of cowboys in the motortrade, i've worked with some much to my amusement. I know alot of people in various building trades and half of them haven't done any kind of formal training at all. Yes on the job training/experience is esential and to a degree you learn more this way but some people do a few months working for someone then the think they are master joiners/brickies/sparkys etc etc who can go it alone.

Im happy to pay the money to a point but when i get a 5 minute lecture on how bad GSF pumps are and BMW's are the best ones to have etc etc..then i get a bit annoyed! Especially as BMW's pumps are £204 plus vat..and the invoice he had in his hand was obviously from GSF..
GSF/ECP supply genuine parts too, he may have bought a genuine BMW pump through GSF.

Just to let you all know, ive spoken to the garage owner and asked him again if it was a genuine part bought from BMW that was fitted to my car. He replied that it WAS so i then asked if i could have a copy of the invoice for the warranty and also to claim back the 10% discount being a club member..(that was a bit of waffle). He flatly refused to let me have the invoice and claimed all i was allowed to have was the invoice issued by their garage for the work carried out. After a long silence i then put it to him that the pump was supplied by GSF and not BMW as he was still trying to maintain, the part numbers didnt match. He then started to become abusive and patronise me at which point i blew my top big time!! Up to that point id been calm! He slammed the phone down on me..!!
After 10 minutes i calmed down a bit and rang him back. During this time he had gone and found the invoice and got my details up on his PC. When i put it to him again he APOLOGISED for lieing to me and leading me on about the pump coming from BMW. He admitted that the pump had been supplied from GSF and was extremely sorry for lieing and treating me the way he had. I accepted his apology and was offered a discount on my next service etc..as you can imagine the trust has gone and i will not be returning.
The garage i used in the past was a one man band and went there for 10 years and never had a problem. He was a BMW guy through and through but unfortunately closed his business last year. These bigger garages seem to treat their customers with contempt and only see them as a way of screwing them for money. Its a shame as the lads who work in this garage are spot on and do excellent work..its the owner that is the problem.

My issue was being lied to, and this was done in quite a misleading and underhanded way. I didnt have an issue with the price and accept that they have to make a bit for themselves for overheads etc. I know also that both GSF pumps and BMW pumps are made by Bosch so he could have been honest and told me the pump came from GSF and were vertually identical. Instead i was being led to believe that BMW had supplied the pump and i should be grateful that they had given me the pump for less than retail.

Thats it now, im happy with the outcome..just to here the guy tie himself up in knots and then apologise is satisfying enough..

Once i get the bit between my teeth im like a jack russell..!!

Cheers everyone for your opinions.
