...for getting some decent sounding base into a touring. before everyone yells subsubsub, im going for decent music reproduction and sound quality, not big subs as they're too damn heavy.

i have a set of Alpine typeR 16cm components that i need to squeeze in the footwells (?).

im trying to figure out where to mount speakers in the rear.

a bit of a rambling post I know, im just after other peoples ideas pics etc.

cheers in advance
Chris

unfortunately mate if you want good sound out of your touring you will need a sub there is no where really suitable to put any rear speakers. i would recomend a good set of components up front with lots of sound deadning and a nice 10" or 12" boxed sub in the boot. i have just put some components in mine (only 5 1/4 though) and noticed a big improvement and they will be even better when i get round to putting the sound deadning in.

im prob going to make some kind of ring to bring the components out slightly to fit them into the 5" holes and shove some dynamat behind them. I have a 10"Vibe sub from my old fourdoor, but it really weighs down the back end and will get in the way in a touring.

i know you can get upgraded speaker boxes that were available on some tourings that bolt to the inner wheelarch. ive also seen speakers mounted in the access doors at the back, though that seems liek a bit of a cop out to me lol

the rear speaker bins are crap i have them in mine and you could upgrade the speker but it is only a 4". some people have put 6x9's in the fold down sections but i would imagine they vibrate a lot and the quality will be muffled as they would be tucked away in the boot.

why not custom make a box for your spare wheel well ?

In my old touring i had sound deadening in the spare wheel well, the spare upside down and wedged with foam, then the sub flush mounted and some thick steel mesh flush with the carpet, amp was in the inside lid of the right hand bin, didnt get in the way of using the boot but taking the mesh up to clean the cone was a bit of work on a regular basis especially when you carry a dog that gets carsick when you drive more than a couple of miles

Chris
IF your looking for some rear speaker enclosures, i've got a pr here if you want them

You can fit a nice wee MB Quart component set (mid and tweeter) in them

That's what i did in my other pr in the 325 and they do a pretty good job of providing rear fill
