Just wondered whether anyone here has painted or polished their rocker covers to give their engine bays a bit of bling? I'm thinking about having mine polished but still can't decide. If anyone has any pics of their rocker cover / engine bay facelifts then please post them up for all to see...

In my opion i think they look best painted black, then the high ridges and "bmw" polished. Andy 335touring has it like this and looks good.

Think he used "dimple" style black paint. pretty sure Harley Davidson stores sell it.

sure i've seen cans of this stuff in halfords before, if not B&Q. suppose you need a paint that is happy with a bit of heat too. Can't knock the old Hammerite in my opinion, the smooth stuff though.

I'm on with exactly the same plans at the moment Daz, picked up a cam cover from Widge the other night. Will give me something to do at the weekend

I used VHT wrinkle paint from the following link, but the black is out of stock. :( They have red in stock if you fancy it ?

https://www.usautomotive.co.uk/scripts/ ... ategory=55

Just try googling it,some one else will have it in stock.

Demlot(Andrew) has also used the same paint on his car.

You're driving a time bomb, it's either do it or you'll end up changing the engine

Cheers Andy, I'm not gonna do it for a month, so I might just wait till it's in stock if you guys say it's good.

Ive sprayed mine in high temp black paint but its a really dull matt finish. Im tempted in spraying over it with Hammerite Gloss paint but I dont want it to crack!

I cleaned mine a lot then did 3 layers of etch primer, then 2 or 3 layers of black hi temp, followed by a coat of laquer, though this needed to be high temp too really

May powder coat if I do another

I polished the lettering etc. on mine before spraying, then there was only a little bit of work with T-Cut to get through the paint and down to the polished bits :)

I used 'VHT Wrinkle Plus' on mine, came up very well. Read the back of the can carefully though. 'Do not apply at temperatures below 21degrees C !!'
Also, don't go overboard when applying it, takes FOREVER to fully cure.
I scraped 90% off the ribs when it was still fairly tacky, that made it a lot easier to polish up with wet&dry paper when it was fully hardened.

I'd really like mine to be color-coded with the exterior paint, and the raised parts polished.

Bodged this together one day, 'priming' it with black hi-temp paint and covering with regular spray paint. Looked really really sweet but on a test run (on the kitchen furnace, don't tell the missus ) the regular paint seemed to just dissapear (causing quite a lot of smoke too btw 8)).

Might have another go at it using hi-temp clearcoat but don't think it will work. :?

Anyone any ideas how to get this done properly?
