Hi folks, just thought I might as well make a post even though I haven't got my E30 yet. Hopefully by Sunday night I should have myself a shiny Hellrot 325i & have given it a thorough shakedown run (read "sound thrashing"!!!).

Actually, there was a slight lie in that statement. It's not at all shiny at the moment due to being out of use for a couple of years & standing outside. Does anyone have any special tips for bringing the faded paint up again, other than plenty of T-cut, wax & elbow grease? (no, I won't wash it with Diesel 'cause I ain't selling it!

)

This will be my first 3 series, so I'm quite excited about how it will drive as my previous experience of BMW's is all 7's (E23 x2, 735iSE+728i & E32 x1, 730i 6cyl.) and these were beautifully balanced if a little heavy...

I'd better get off now & see my mate about transporting it back home so I can give it a good service & generally re-comission the poor thing.
I'll post some pics when I've got the car, pending my camera talking to the PC for a change....

Id steer clear of T-Cut, try AutoGlym Paint Renovator, really good at restoring faded red. And a good wax to seal it afterwards (plenty to choose from Victoria, Colonite, Swissvax, Zymol..the list goes on.

Damn, I haven't even got the car yet. My mate who was going to be picking it up has had a little "disagreement" with another lad in the pub & I thought I'd allow some recovery time before hassling him to go fetch my car.

Why not T-cut by the way? I've got some of the colour stuff lying about for red paint & thought I'd give that a try. I know it's harder work than the Autoglym, but I've always been impressed with the original T-cut on all types of paint. (saying that, there is a little bit of Autoglym somewhere in the shed too. Just got to find it.)

If you can't get it to post up, still send it to me & I'll give it a shot.
That picture's pretty much like the results I get with normal (not colour) T-cut, nice. Only thing with most reds though is I think it tends to fade back pretty quick unless you absolutely douse the thing in wax straight afterwards. Actually, light blue seems to do this also...

Cheers. No, that's perfectly readable & much appreciated. I see why it might be a bugger to post up now though! I will give it a go tomorrow if no-one else manages in the meantime. I've got to go now, need to look at a Vectra 2.0 losing water!..... wonder what that could be?

T-cut contains ammonia, not a great substance to put on your paint.

As Lee (beemerlad) has proven it does work, But and this is important, You must seal the fresh paint with a wax or sealant. If not it will be dull within two weeks.

Hoping I might catch the guy there later tonight or tomorrow but for the moment I'm BMWless, though I'm also looking at an '88 318i 2 door as a temporary car while I fix the dead clutch on my Tipo...
