Hi, my friend has just brought his car around for me to look at it's a E36 M3 evo cabby, he has a problem with his electric roof it wont open and close. All of the motors are working ok and I can open the roof manually. Is there a control box. Where is the trunk sensor located.

When I try to lower the roof I press and hold the switch to lower the room and nothing happens no sounds of motors turning nothing.

I have tried to re sync the motors and have followed the correct procedure but still I do not get any sounds from the motors.

When I manually lower the roof i.e. I pull the motor release lever and hear the motors disconnect, I unwind the front part with the BMW tool The red led on the switch starts to flash indicating that the roof is starting to open after unwinding it for what seems like ages I am able to raise the rear part of the roof and lower it into the roof hold when I press down the roof cover it does not lock into place fully is this right ? it is loose almost as tho it needs to be wound in the last part to pull the rood cover down.

I can gain access to the boot by pressing down with my right hand as I open the boot and I am able to reconnect both motors I hear them snap back into place.

When I try to resync the motors I still get nothing from the switch.

I have checked the fuses and all appears to be in order there is a yellow fuse next to the battery and this appears to be working properly and the fuses under the bonnet all appear to be working correctly with no breaks in them.

I have tested the back of the Roof switch with a probe that finds live wires and it would appear that none of the wires are live when I probe them....would this be right ??

I have tested the wires that connect to the motors and again non of them seem to be live wold I expect one of the wires to be live or am I missing something ?

Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I can try or is it going to be a trip to BMW ?
