I've just been to my local stealer to get prices for new bonnet and boot roundals as mine are pants. The grand total came to the best part of 50 quid....which i didn't pay. I really think its cheeky having to pay for those two particular items, i mean they're hardly consumables like discs, pads, exhausts, head gaskets (sigh) and sub frame bushes (sigh). I think it looks bad on BMWs part that they are such bad quality and its just down right cheeky to charge us for new ones!!!

Rant over.

Oh i agree totally mate, but with the roundals its the principle that annoys me. And if BMW spend more money on them in the first place they wouldnt need replacing, ive seen 10 year old cars where the enamel is lifting, they are just tat. I know that spare parts is a big money maker for dealers and the fat cats in Munich but do they reallt have to be so greedy and make money on the BMW badge itself?

Mate, theres definitely something wrong with the prices you've been quoted.
I wouldn't think that the roundels should be more than £12+VAT each. Possibly less if your dealer is "friendly" and gives you a bit discount.

As it's come up like this, i would like to commend my local dealer, Williams BMW Liverpool. They have been really helpful, got me my parts within 2 days or there in stock and have never charged me too much. Full set of inlet manifold gaskets and a rocker cover gasket were 22.50 - that didn't seem so bad to me, i don;t know what other people think?

I think roundels are no more than 13 quid, but can't say for sure.

I also work for a dealer ( in London). I would be willing to sort you guys out now and again, but do not want to step on zimmerbimmer1's toes.

Just maybe a " second choice" type offer.

Just a thought ! :)

So it sounds like they are about £12 then. In my experience as an e30 owner i think that we are quite privelidged realy, my car will be 22 years old this year, yet I can go to the dealers and get genuine parts for my car. In some cases they are a little more expensive than the spurious tat which could be used.

For example waterpumps, about £25 from EPC or GSF, I have heared of these lasting less than a year, where as a genuine one is about £55, but, and I only found this out the other day, BMW will give you £13 exchange on your old one :)

Dont get me wrong I have bought stuff from EPC and GSF, but price wise the dealers are not that bad, considering as well everything fits as it should, and they dont even grumble when i go in there and order a gasket :)

Most other car marques dont have this service to keep their on road museum going :)

No, im upset because of the PRINCIPLE of it, see my first post. Also see my second post for my thoughts on quality, ive seen cars half the age (and less) of my 22 year old E30 with crap roundals. BMW are supposed to be a prestige car maker, i think its dissapointing that the most prominant part of the whole car, bearing their name, is built so poorly. I have never seen crappy porsche badges....even on shi* 924s they are always still perfect (unless some pikey has nicked it)

I know that....surely BMW make enough out of all the other parts. Couldnt they just make this ONE part, the part that takes pride of place on their cars, to last....surely they arn't that hard up for cash...???

I seem to be on my own with this one...

everything will be made by sub contractors who tendor for a specific job. cheapest usually always wins in every walk off life. just goes to show that main dealer parts arent always much better than cheaper copys but a lot will come down to how hard a life the cars had and whether its been looked after properly.
