On the 6 cyl its on the offside of the engine, near the front but quite low down. You should also check the wires which go around the front of the engine. My light flickered and it was the wire rubbing on the fan belt....

sorry guys, its an m40 engine, 4cyl 1.8
cheers for the feedback
the light only comes on when the cars idling, it goes out when i blip the throttle but comes back on again when the revs come back down, although it only happens sometimes. does this sound like its the switch or is the oil pump on the way out

could be rubbing on the belt and when rev'd the fan is blowing the wire away from the belt ?
Or dodgy alternator.
