I can guess the answer, but I thought it might make some good discussion. submit your votes and reasons;
E46 for me, love the M3 CSL and also the new CS... carbon fibre and 350 bhp odd from the factory, it doesnt get much better than that!

E30 for me as I'm an 80's teen, growing up in the 80's and remembering all the cars I wanted my dad to buy.
Next cars on my must have list, ur Quattro, Lancia Delta Integrale evo, then I will be satisfied, I will then decide on my fave, and it will be the car I will grow old with.
Newer cars are just too round and soft looking for my liking, and with all the regulations etc, they just don't sound like they used to, with the exception of the E46 CSL!

e30 for me. have many many flaws, but i will always hold a candle for them. even after they have all rusted away. and the nice ones still look great.
nothing wrong with the e36. ok so the 4 doors are trash, but the coupe is still a really nice car. almost any e36 coupe will give an e30 problems on a nice b road. a late reg e36 is a real nice place to be. the m3 is fantastic.
the e46 looks great, and is dynamically great too. possibly the last "pretty" bmw. most are driven by tossers as a status sybol(read 330ci). i would like a 330, and again the e46 m3 is fantastic.
ive heard real good things about the e90. they dont look great, especially after the e46. but aparently they are fantastic to drive. a 320d will kill a e30 325i on a twisty road. although ive not driven one so i cant really comment. but if its as good as they say it is then its a great drivers car and thats what you want really.
the e21 is scrap.

i've had e30, e36, e46
the e36 m3 individual(gt) i had was the sexiest to look at,
my e46 330d is better built and is fun to drive but
the e30 gives me more smiles per miles
cant wait to put my project up against an e90 m3, both 400bhp, both v8's
i'm sure i'll have a bigger grin when i win
and it wont have cost me 40 grand

e30 for me. although i would love an e46 CSL. not a fan of e36 really. just look boring i think. e21 is old skool cool
.
if i were to choose from the range of m3's i would say the e30 m3. although its the slowest it is the coolest and you dont see many about. e46 m3 is too common. But the CSL is a different story, deffo tops the chart

I've owned an E30 (325 Touring), E36 (316i Compact) and E46 (320Ci Coupe)
Running the E46 now as my main car, have to say the E30 was more fun while I was still driving it, but am using for a kit project now. The E46 is more comfy on the motorway, but the touring was a lot of fun. I would say its hard to choose which I like best out of them.

having driven E30's, E36's and an E46 i like them all, but the best 2 for me would be a toy E30 and an E46 for everyday, nice build quality and great wet handling. If u really look at a nice pre-facelift E46 with 18 MV's etc they are a truly a beaut of a car

E30 for me, every time!
e21-ubercool and set the way for the e30 experience-2nd only to the 2002 for oldskoolcool bimmers
the e36 is a turd, pure and simple-too heavy and very unresponsive in my opinion. Its a very useful tool for the motoryway, tho
the e46 is a great car in terms of both handling and performance-just lacking the soul and involvement of the e30. Again more of a cruising car than a 'hustler'
e90-if anyone ever sees me in one-shoot me! Ugly and too big

e90 is just the ugliest BMW ever and anyone that buys one is just buying it because of the badge.
I suspect alot of e46 owners will have enough common sense to stick with their cars and buy a newer car when BMW decides to release cars that dont look like a Toyota Avensis.

ok, so there should be a button for a 2002...
My fave: 2002 turbo... soooooooo cool!
2nd: E21. (had to vote here) though there's not a "real" sporty version so a lot of work needs to be done. still drive as well as a E30 but a bit quirkier! lighter than an E30... my wifes one was a lot more reliable than my E30
3rd: E30. a good compromise between modern reliablilty (touch wood, fingers crossed etc!!!) performance and classic style.
the others just leave me cold, with the exception of the odd M3 but i'd still rather a 2002!!!
i seriously doubt the E46 will wear galactic mileage and age (as yet unproven) as well as an E21. just think what the electrics on an E30 are like... 15 year old E46 won't be fun to own as there's about ten times as much! think Montego/Maestro!!

E46 M3 CSL followed by E30 M3. I don't like e36's now but did like them when they first came out.
i went out in a 325i e90 last weekend and it is a good car. does look like an avensis from the back though
