Filled the tank up to the "brim" tonight for the first time since getting the car. Petrol all over the forecourt ! I wasn't popular. Took a risk and drove it to use some fuel, all seems OK now with approx 2 gallons gone.
I'm assuming its leaking where the filler pipe meets the tank ?
Is this a usual problem, any ideas appreciated before I crawl under it tomorrow to have a look ?
Thanks
Kevin

If it's the filler pipe at fault i would suspect it would leak every time you put petrol in.
If it only leaks when full check the pump seal and hoses under the back seat.

The two common failings in this area:
1: Where the filler pipe joins the tank
2: The filler pipe itself
I had to replaced my filler pipe because it was rather perforated at the top. Because the holes were on the top of the pipe, it never leaked while filling, until the fuel was all the way up the filler pipe.
Cheers,
Ian.

Thanks all
I did fill it right to the top ! so hopefully it's just the filler pipe or connections.
I'll let you know what i find. Hadn't noticed it when I put smaller amounts in.

OK, just had a look under the back seat and found a split pipe.
I can't see where it goes so I can get a replacement. Any ideas. I have marked it on photo ?

It's possibly a breather that returns to the filler pipe so you don't get an air lock in the tank that causes it to spit petrol at you while your filling it up.

i assume the picture was taken with you facing the rear of the car ?
(if you know what i mean)
I think the fuel pump has been changed at some point because the jubilee clips should be crimps like the others (original).
