ok thinking bout puttin m52 engine into an e30
just noticed on misses e46 m52 323i that inside the right hand tailpipe it has a butterfly and above the pipe a mechanism for opening and closing the bfly can anybody tell me why this is there???
also could i fit different tailtrims over the standard ones as misses wants hers different cheers lads

If you look and get someone to rev the engine at a certain speed the valve opens allowing the other pipe to work while maintaining the correct back pressure for the engine to breath at the correct rate for optimum performance.
So when you see (hear) some twit with an aftermarket exhaust bolted on you know it's crap no matter what the guy who sold it to him said
Maybe people with uprated cam shafts could learn somthing
(rough idle?)
