Keep seeing these on ebay and think it might be a worth while in vest ment while i build up my spare engine.

What do you guys think of them? would they be a worth while investment? :D

Secondly would it be a good idea to get some low comp pistons while i'am there? or just put new rings on the standard ones which IIRC are forged anyway all be it at 10:1 CR?

The engine will be running a M62 charger (the nextsize up from mine ooff mercs)

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/H-Beam-Connecting ... dZViewItem

Any thoughts or advise would be much appreicated.

cheers matt :D

Custom pistons wern't as expensive as I thought I chose to go with them so I could choose the CR and possibly run higher boost later (if thats the way choose to go?!), and I could also spec the pistons up and have ceramic coatings thicker rings. extra strength this that and the other ect ect.. I know they are going to do the job wether I go turbo, SC or NOS. They were specced to take a beating.

If the Rods are what they say they are and you can afford them they would certainly last you and be up to some serious punishment, I assume your in the search for more power now?

People with power only want one thing!

More :burn:

What sort of money do custom pistons cost, if you dont mind me asking and what should you realy ask for when speccing them?

I copied Alex's(TurboBrowns) spec mainly when it came to speccing my new pistons, I chose to go with a larger bore too.

For M20B25
85mm Bore
8.0:1 Compression Ratio
High heat Coatings
Upgraded wrist pins
Thicker Piston Rings

These all seemed to be good for high boost or silly NOS bhp ect ect. I ordered mine here: http://www.racetep.com/jecustom.html

Made by JE pistons in the states, I'll PM you cost. But theres some idea of price on the link I posted.

Could any one suggest any companys who are well known for making rods? I've asked the ebay seller for the name of the manufacture and am waiting a reply. he seams to do alot of bmw stuff, selling Bmw M20 billet rockers, conrods and pistons.

Spoke to PEC (sweden)
carillo rods (usa)

They seem to be saying around £800 a set but are quoting the same material spec, production process and ARP bolts so i it seems to be just who does the best price rather than there being a difference in build spec.

With delivery these are about £550

http://www.racetep.com/parrod.html

Don't know about quality but these guys don't mess about, fire off an email to them and ask. They also sell Pauter for not much more so these can't be too bad!

Be interested to know the quality of the rods in the e-bay link!

They list a set for the M20 which I'm quite tempted by as my Pauters are the wrong length

I'm led to believe that Carrillo rods are the best of the best by a mate who used to build race engines, correspondingly expensive though which is to be expected.

Ooh, what did they say? Funnily enough just been on their site!

I am puzzled as to how a set of 6 rods can cost less than a set of rockers though!

Nice find Matt, could be just what i'm looking for, had been looking at Metric Mechanic stuff until i'd seen these.

Would be interested in what you decide to do about the pistons, want mine to be pretty bullet proof which i think is the way your looking to go as well 8)

Yea i think i'll be using JE pistons, just got to wait till i've cleared my Sport out the way so i know where i am with money. Could you give me a rough idea on price for these, pm me if you'd prefer :) .

Are you able to go lightweight if you going FI though, after reading though Metric Mechanics stuff i was under the impression your better of going the other way for durability?

Whats this about a group buy? winkeye

Alex and I are importing some M20 rods form the US, PM him we may get a better deal if anyone wants some more even if they are M42 ones! Hes also getting MLS gaskets from the same company, ho knows if we bump the order up a bit we might get more off.
