well at the moment its having all new suspension and brakes, all the bodywork is being carried out, thats all basically, but its expensive to get power from bmw engines, so i wondered if a cosworth transplant was worth while and easier than a larger bmw engine.
once the chassis work is complete i was hoping to put the cosworth engine in (obviously not as easy as that) for more power

mine has cost me around £9000+ so far including buying the car for £1200. a transplant such as this will lead to expensive teething problems and lessons learned before becoming reliable. probably over £3000 to buy basic spec engine ,box ,ecu, loom, cooler, rad etc. and unless you know the engine youve bought its almost guaranteed it will need work done to it. im on my 2nd replacement turbo and at £800 a time its not cheap.
once you get it reliable it is indeed easy to tune up with 330bhp being had for around £600 ish or my planned stage of 370bhp for the same again but thats only because ive already fitted the larger turbo ,uprated head gasket, ported/polished head etc and just need bigger injectors, chip, sensor etc to hit my target.
its an expensive game .

turbo s14!!! someone who does these sorts of things does not ask how much they cost , they take it somewhere like A Tech say do it and wave there visa around and get a shit hot car
if you have to ask how much something like that costs you cant afford it !
why not turbo your exsisting lump ?

IT not all that bad if you can weld and tern a spanner
Get all the bits together take lots of photo for ref
Make shore you no were the front / centre of the crank is
So you can line up the new engine cut and weld new mounts
Then it the gearboxes if it will fit in the tunnel or do you make an
An adapter plat to fit the bmw boxes
Prop just cut and weld what ends you need
Diff to start just keep what you got
Exhaust and sump is a ball arch just got to get on with it
Then it the black magic engine management
But I will agree that getting it reliable will take time
