Ah right, I have a serial bluetooth dongle, called a "AIRcable Serial3". It's a bit different to all the others I have encountered (although does the same job in this instance). I hooked it up to a satellite tracker/gprs modem (could just as easily been the serial port of Megasquirt), and communicated with it though the (bash) console of my Nokia web tablet, and attach it as a virtual com port. I was thinking I could use this to wirelessly connect to Megasquirt, and write an application to get real time data, and display it in the form of realtime bar graphs and gauges. Perfect alternative to having a permanent in-dash LCD display. Could be made to work on a Java enabled bluetooth phones too.

Fair enough. I was getting excited about the prospect of running some kind of unix console on my symbian n95.

Oh well. Maybe I'll invest in the bluetooth serial dongle and have a play anyway. I've messed with the nokia sdk stuff in the past but didn't have any really useful ideas. This might be worth a shot though.

Moving the sensor even a fraction of a mil closer (I aggressively sanded the vr bracket :)) helped get me up to 6500, still issues above that though so not 100% sorted. Unfortunately the m42 vr bracket isn't adjustable.
I suggested that didnt I? remember mentioning that to you when i had the issues with different crank wheels. glad it's working dude.

meh. perhaps you did. :) I think at the time I was convinced that if it ran motronic ok it should run ms ok. I still believe that to be honest. That's why I'm gonna go see Bill S at some point hopefully. Find out what's really the problem.

Might be a silly question, (didn't we have this conversation before?) but have you got the CPS connected the right way round, so that the cable screen is connected to ground?

I think we did chat about it yes. The crank sensor is 3pin but as far as I can tell only two a brought out to the motronic connector. The two from the sensor coil. gnd and + I suppose the other is a shield that's grounded one end? In either case, I have got the sensor the "correct" way around. -- when I first wired it up I had it wrong and the car wouldn't rev above 2500, reversing it took me straight up to 5500 :) I think the thing that confused me was that the black wire on the motronic loom is actually the signal wire from the sensor

Might be worth checking the screen, to see if it's grounded. Have you connected all the ground pins of the Motronic connector together?

Yes the colour scheme is a bit odd. I hacked apart a Motronic plug, to make an adapter for my JimStim. Soldered all the wires onto a MS DB37 plug.

Haven't actually checked the 3rd pin at all. If I can dig out my old broken vr I'll see I can make sense of whether the vr case is grounded, or if the shield is not connect to the sensor, then see where the other side goes.

All my permanent loom grounds on the motronic are grounded to the top row DB37 (at least the ones which are MS grounds are) The some grounds are required to be ignition switched so I have an extra relay for that.
