Did an injector swap the other week on my 325i - put Jaysons uprated injectors on. 5 of the original injectors came out fine, but the last one ended up losing the little plastic bit on the output end into the engine..
Doesn't seem to have done any damage to the engine (lucky I guess), but would I be ok to put this injector back in or is the plastic bit important?

I'm upgrading to an SE, and want to reuse the new injectors (they make quite an improvement to the running of the car), and put the originals back in my current car to sell it.

I am assuming you lost the orange cap on the end?

If so there is only really 2 things you can do.

take the top end apart and remove the plastic cap

or cross your figures and fire it up plastic melts and burns off right? It *shouldn't* be a problem, unless it gets stuck in between a valve and the valve relief in which case it will be crushed, and the valve stands a small chance of getting bent.

That was a couple of weeks ago and I'm afraid I crossed my fingers and fired her up - no ill effects so far...

What I really want to know though is whether or not I can still use the injector with the missing cap, or if the cap is a vital component?

The cap aids the dispersion of the fule, you need to have the cap fitted otherwise a hot spot will occur.
