About to go see an Alpina C2 2.7

Hey, did a search everywhere but there's scare information to be found - doesn't seem to be a much sold car.
I'm going to look at one of these soon and would much appreciate any advice on any points to look for.
I'm assuming it's going to need a couple thousand to bring it to tip top condition, but is the engine good for what is essentially a 160k mile car?

Meanwhile where on earth can I generally find this car - sytner don't deal with old cars anymore so they're just a case of pot luck with regards to finding them.

Yeah, so long as the engine has been well maintained and documented. Mileage will not be an issue. For the most part you need to be sure it's a genuine 'pina. A plaque by the ashtray is a good place to start.

Simon 13 is doing a full bare metal resto on one in the picture gallery section.

The rest is pretty much like buying a normal e30 so read the sport buying guide in the tech section.

If it's good, it'll be really good. I have a c2.5 and I love it!

approach with caution for some reason (I could speculate but wont) alpinas attracted the worst sort of owners a few years ago and are mostly heaps by now. You need proof of recent expenditure and regular servicing god knows what you do when a head cracks on these. as for finding them they do crop up in classic car sites and the like so if you want a good one be patient.

If you're serious, I own a very original and tidy C2 2.7, non sunroof, needs very minor cosmetic tidying and a few bits and bobs, all there and all with the service history and then some.

Mobil 1 from new, had planned to resto for myself but a HUGE tax bill means its a pipe dream.

Dont wanna sell, but its £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ over anything else @ the moment.

gimme a bell, come have a look and make an offer maybe ? I want strong money though so be warned dude.

Yes there are a number of Alpina unique components and on a 20 year old car most are MIA !
Do your research and check EVERYTHING . Most of these cars are missing their original, exhausts, suspension,camshafts/heads and lots more , often leaving some badges,alpina rims,spoilers and little else !

I guess it'll have an Alpina cam, which IIRC is NLA. They exhaust system, again, IIRC is a Boysen job, not easy to get hold of. The suspension set up is a combination of two suspension manufacturers, Bilstein shocks Eibach springs, giving a 30mm or 40mm drop, again IIRC.

Some comsetics are still available but fooking expensive. I think wheels are still available.

May people build 2.7 strokers, much in the same way Hartge and Alpina did, so it's not out of the question.

All the e30 bits are still available so cam aside, most is available brand new.

If you ahve money to burn, Ant's would be well worth looking at. Very trustworthy gentleman.

Spend now or spend later. Better to pay more for a sound honest car with good history and all the right bits present and correct than buy a dog or something with lots of original parts missing.

I found out some more about the hillingdon one, the guy who owned it previously lost it and kit a large kerb resulting in suspension and wheel damage.

Despite being in a bad way and way over priced, it could be made into a good car but the only way to look at it is needing a full resto which would consume alot of £.

Only worth half of what its up for tops in my oppinion.

Ah so that beauty at WLN sold then. Was also feature in BMWCar magazine a couple of months ago.

If its a genuine C2 2.7 your after the Ants is deff worth considering as its very orginal and complete, other than that then its just a waiting game untill an example that meets your requirements and budget comes up.
As others have said, many of them have been broken/smashed or either lost some their Alpina specific parts or been molested by undesirables.

If you dont mind having a 4dr then this could expand the range of potential cars and are generally cheaper than 2drs.
