Hey guys, i know it's a bit of a vague question but how much do you learned folk reckon it would cost, in parts, to fully rebuild and old M30 B35?

Assuming of course that i did all the spannering myself. With decent quality parts (maybe not BMW originals, but known brands of reasonable repute)

And anyone want to hazard a guess as to the same for an M5 engine (3.5ish twin cam(dont know the designation)(M1 engine))

Cheers
Chris

It cost me about a grand to rebuild an M20 to standard spec which included new oil pump, bearings, gaskets and seals, cylinder hone, new valve guides.

No new pistons etc were used but it still cost a lot!

As they say "buy cheap, buy often".
Done properly your looking at a grand minimum.
There is NO nucleus.

Grand easy, I spent nearly £400 on genuine shells and oem rings, if id bought genuine rings it would be closer to £500

Hi

An s38 (m5) is close to a s14 so you are lookign at 2k in consumables for a full rebuild ie gaskets, timing gear, oil/water pumps and rings, the same again if you need cams, guides, followers.

I know it's not quite what you were asking, but it cost me £600 to do a full top-end rebuild 2 and a half years ago using OE quality parts. So I'd say £1k minimum for a full rebuild.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......
