Im realy starting to get annoyed with this car, about 2 months ago it wouldn't start after many many times of trying it started idled like shit cut out, did that a few times then ran faultlessly. Now its doing it again, it seems that it just won't start, seems to be turning over fine but it just won't bite and start. i flattened the battery trying to start it yesterday so boosted it up and kept trying a minute ago with no avail.

ANyone got any ideas before i torch the thing?

Cheers

Im glad your here, as all e30 pumps are the same i guess it'l be as simple as swapping one from my 320i over. Spose 180k miles has taken its toll.

According to the BMW drivers' handbook, the 316 touring has the smaller fuel tank, and presumably the two pipe fuel pump to go with it, but I'm not sure this is correct.
Your 320 pump should be a single pipe one, so may not be a direct fit.
You can always swap the actual pump over, though. Just needs the wires to the pump to be soldered.

My 316 has the same symptom. I have a fuel pump waiting for me at the wrong address!!!

Yes it's a 2 pipe pump. But is the fuel filter in the same place? I looked and it's not where it normally is on a 325??

Someone buy that man a drink, just changed the pump over and fired up sweet as. Direct swap on the pump from my 320i. Did it all in just under an hour incl salvaging the old one. If i ever meet you brian they'l be a drink heading your way.

On a side note r.e fuel filter, i have next to be what i beleive is a fuel filter destined for a m42 engined car. Will the filter be different to a 316i, soon to be m20b25?

Cheers

Fuel filter on 316 should be at the bottom left of the bulkhead... Not in front of the rear wheel as on the 2.5.
Currently slumming it in an E46 Touring
