Yes it was finished, albeit not cosmetically/trim 100% but has been taxed and mot'd and was even seen at lemans ! it is currently having a few suspension and cosmetic issues addressed and should see the road again soon !

Reckon the moral of the story is not to take on a conversion that you cannot enginner yourself, unless you have endless patence and very deep pockets.

mfree's story was exceptionally bad and he suffered from more than his fair share of bad luck with his project.my 2 conversions have both over run wildly on timescales and costs but not to mfrees extent.daimlerman wrote:Reckon the moral of the story is not to take on a conversion that you cannot enginner yourself, unless you have endless patence and very deep pockets.
unfortunately some peoples minds out perform their abilities. like me for example. as a joiner ive never done serious engine work and always leave that to the professionals but ill always do all the other stuff like suspension, clutch fitting brakes etc. its not so much that its difficult in stripping down and rebuilding the engine but more that you have the experience to know that youve put it all back together properly within set tolerances only learned from experience. but twice now ive paid 'professionals' to do cosworth engine conversions for me and had problems both times with in my opinion shoddy workmanship on basic bread and butter issues.paying a specialist to do an unusual conversion is a very expensive hobby. my first cossie conversion cost me nearly £6000 supply and fit for the engine and running gear but my E30 has cost me probably about £9000ish including buying the car and uprating everything else and its only been that cheap because i already owned all the engine ,box, ecu etc parts already. its not that hard in my opinion physically fitting the engine to the car but its things like the wiring that is best left to those that know what they are doing. unfortunately when left in the hands of a 'professional' they know that once they start it it wont stop until its finished and always find more reasons to keep bumping up the quoted price.
next time i do another conversion im going to tackle the majority myself at my leasure.
the only way to guarantee a good job is to do it yourself as the performance tuning industry seems to be full of more cowboys than the building industry.

is mfree not on here anymore or known to anyone? an update would be good
