Would it be an easy job to repair this area, or will I be left with a constant reminder of my stupidity?
repairing jacking points
Moderator: martauto
There is some rust on my jacking points and to make things worse, I used a trolley jack with a raised edge on its lift which has dented the sill at the jacking point
.

Looking at the rust this evening it looks like bad surface rust around the jacking point, so I'm thinking get the rust treated and the sills schutzed? I still feel like a plonker for denting the lower sill line. These dents can't be removed

had rusted jacking points on my 318i, got them sorted though and it only cost Ԛ£75 for both sides! and this wasnt a cowboy job but from a very reputable bodyshop.

sills are pretty solid on e30s and most times rusty jackin points are quite localised.... but occasionally spread onto the lateral chassis rail partially just inside the sillAdammcf wrote:Best option is probably to fit two new sills. If the jacking points are that bad then the sills are probably the same.
usually localised to floorpan though

Fit the side skirts from a SE or a touring to cover up the repair work.Karan wrote: ...dunno bout the sills as thse are visible everyday so i dunno if perfect finish could be acheived
Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback.
Checking the ETK, there are replacement sills available for the E30, but the rear sill sections seem to be part of the rear quarter panel. I know a place where I can get good clean E30 sections, so I guess I should discuss the options you guys have mentioned with a local bodyshop to see what they think.
This car is going to cost alot to get right

where you from kevin, just had all my sills done by a local garage they done them for free. Guy said it wasnt a very big job to do them and you should be alright as long as you need no welding done as mine was only the rust and a re spray with some stuff to stop them rusting could get a price for you tomorrow if it helps
