I have to agree on the track they are fantastic i race an M3 E30 in the Kumho and had the chance to buy a sorted E36 this year but stuck with the E30 as i just love the car.

With the right power it keeps up with most thing on a track unfortunaly to get the right power it is not cheap.

I just don't agree with the fifth gear film as before we went into Kumho we ran it as a trck day car with just the interior stripped and a cage in it and not a lot of cars except for the supercars or car costing 4-5 times as much could get away from us unless they had been modified themselfs.

Get one on a track for a day and you would agree i have driven moden cars on a track Lotus excige, Audis, Renualt and none of they are anywhere near the feel and experiance.

Just my opinion.

only been a passenger max in an e30 m3 but dont give me the bollocks that i know your about to. when its being driven to its limits on road and track by the owner to try to impress me and its failing then i have enough experience to judge. its just not the be all and end all that lots on here will try to convince you its merely a better than average car. its more style and story than actual substance imo.
ive been more impressed in a 3 door cosworth and an audi quattro with the former being so much easier to tune up.the only time ive ever been really impressed was in a 550bhp cosworth.
dont take it as a personal insult though its just my opinion as i dont wear bmw blinkers. id buy one maybe if good ones could be had for the £5000ish mark but not £10000

Im with Fuzzy to a certain extent. Given 10 to 15 grand I think that, rather than spend it on an M3, I would spend it on my car. A 318i with 4 doors by the way, and turn it into something really interesting. I wouldnt change its looks at all, but underneath it all I would love to have it tricked out, just to make M3 owners cry when I scoot past

What's with all this if you've got an M3 you keep it in a garage and never drive it??

Mine's been driven every day since I bought it, not just up the road and back but everywhere.
It live outside my front door. My 3yr old cries if we go out in the missus car!
I've owned an e36 m3 previously to the e30 and it's nowhere as fast, but that doesn't come into the enjoyment of driving the e30! I'd love to get another e36 dont get me wrong but would I change my e30 for one.....NO!

There's an interesting article in this months EVO mag.

Pitting an immaculate Lancia evo2 against a clio192, corsa vxr888 and fiesta st185.
On the rollers, on bedford autodrome and on cadwell. Guess what?
The lancia comes last around both tracks and put's down 190odd bhp (instead of 215), beaten hands down by the vxr which puts down 224.8bhp.
But at the end of it, it say's if you've got £15k to spend on a hot hatch and you've got a set of balls get a lancia because it cant be beaten in the way it makes you feel driving it. last place or not.

So this debate can go on and on and on........and probably always will!

But unless you've owned one and driven it for what it's worth. all the above comments dont mean 5hit

My car vs Focus ST. Focus had me in the midrange. At top end its marginal, but the ST is not that laggy. I reckon a DSG GTI5 would probably do me as well. Standardish Scoobies are the same issue btw. Pull distance in the 2,5-5K range. But once both are wound up not so much in it.

I daresay those cars are easier to drive though.

Gearboxes on Cossies? Well the RWD (T5 ?) boxes are pretty good. Main issue seems to be with the front diffs on the 4wd stuff. Granted the 80s and 90s cossies do suffer for their lag. But Im not sure Id call TurboCharger cheating? Exactly what rules are you governing production road cars too?

depends on the turbo used as to whether its laggy. i wouldnt call mine boosting from 1400rpm on a .48 housing particularly laggy although my back up .63 turbo is admittedly slower in spinning up. theres no real issue with the gearboxes on the rwd t5 box as far as im aware itll handle upto 400bhp without much drama.
on a like for like sized car id put my money on both a scooby wrx and an evo whipping the m3 on whatever surface you choose.
