Just want your opinions (no abuse please)

The only 'M' car i can get insured on and have always liked is an E28 M535i. How would this compare to an E30 of similar insurance price and cost to buy...Ԛ£2000 max?

Cheers

2k will get u a very tidy M535i, think on paper they are similar performance and fun as a 325i sport. Supposed to feel savagely fast too.

They don't rust as bad as E30's!

I say Ԛ£2000 because thats what i thought i had to pay for something that wasnt a rust bucket?

I have heard that fuel consumption is pretty poor and this would be my only car until the track car comes in a while.

What would you be looking at for yours? It looks pretty good! How many miles?

How old does the car need to be for classic insurance?

If I could afford the petrol I'd rip your arm off for that E28. I'd hate to see what you MPG you get round town though...
very

You can get classic insurance on cars 20yrs+ though some will consider 15yrs+. In my experience where Beemers are concerened it's expensive wherever you go.

I'm still not really sure i can bring myself to sell it, but i simply can't have 3 cars, it's ridiculous! if i had some off-road space available i'd keep it!

needs a few jobs doing before it'd sell it - isn't worth all that much at the mo due to daft things like laquer flaking off on the rear spoiler, scruffy driver's seat etc etc... but it's sound with minimal rust, low miles and FSH until i got it (it's still been regularly serviced though! it get a lot more attention than my other cars!) They don't rust like e30s, rusty ones have usually been crashed. all original paint and body panels in superb un-dented condition.

Manual too

consumption isn't too bad, i ran it as an only car for a year. 20mpg-ish around town but 30+ on a run, it's a big torquey motor and you don't need much throttle to keep it cruising.

karan i have no idea!

you see some that look nice but go on ebay for Ԛ£500 odd-quid, then others that go for Ԛ£2.5k

mine is hard to value because it has these little bits and pieces that need doing as mentioned, but the body panels are beautiful, no ripples or car park dents. and when i put the manual box in i couldn't believe how oil-tight the engine was, it wasn't even sweating it out of the rear crank seal when i had the flywheel off.

main issue is it needs the in-tank fuel pump replacing, it runs fine with a full tank but below 1/2 full it gets flat at high revs. no problem to keep it full of fuel but i obviously wouldn't be able to sell it like that!

not too much really, obc, full leccy windows/mirrors/sunroof, fully adjustable sport seats mtech wheel etc, but no AC, leather or leccy seats

has the close dogleg box in, but it's a bit noisy and i have a good e34 overdrive box i've been meaning to put in for ages (i had it in the 335i for a while). almost brand new clutch. LSD in good nick!

I had an m535i for a couple of months, absolutely mint pretty much however I found I had problems finding parts at reasonable prices, and it was much more boat like than an e30 or e36.

I wanted 3.5 e30 power after my alpina Style e30 m3, however i was brutally dissappointed with me m535i, lacked the 260BHP of the pina, the steering and generally felt crappo without leather etc.

I wish I had bought a decent early sport instead for the same money, i ended up selling it for Ԛ£500 to get rid. bit p1ssed off really.

However i bought the car in the sig pic after and its been a joy, so perhaps it was a blessing in disguise.

PM me if you have any specif questions.

I am on a budget as always and correct me if i am wrong but this seems like a good price for a classic car that stands out on the motorway. I am also planning in advance as i wont be able to buy for a few months but i dont think they are gonna get any cheaper!

This would be a big step up from my E30 so i would only notice improvement.

+ Lsd, yum!!!!

cheers for that Jos! I'm painting it tomorrow

have to say I've really enjoyed my e28, if you expect it to handle as well as an e30 m3 then you're going to be dissappointed. it's a good compromise between an m3 and a 7-series, good fun to drive and with a big torquey engine, and it looks well mean!
