Would appreciate any help in getting the right box for my wounderful first BMW.
Price and what type of exhaust i got fitted?
Moderators: martauto, Cotswoldbmw
Can anyone help, i need to relpace the rear section of my exhaust, its got a small oval shape box connecting from the downpipe and a large oval on the rear....all in one piece...the car is on a 'H' plate , 318is, i think its had an engine change, cos spares i need to get relate to a e36 engine. Tried everywhere to get a replacement box, but all tell me there only a pipe from the downpipe to the rear box for my model shown in there books.
Would appreciate any help in getting the right box for my wounderful first BMW.

nah the 318is came with the m42 engine, it was quite new at the time and is more common in the e36's.
Sounds like you have an after market exhaust on it though! any manufacturer marks on it?

Hi....bit nieve on this, there no markings on exhaust, completely rusted...just woundering would the long pipe and the final rear box be ok to fit, all the bends and curves seem to fit in the right places underside...also woundering about the small oval box conecting from the down pipe? Cheers

Sorry I'm no expert on the I.S. mine only lasted a couple months before I sold it on. Probably best to wait for a 4 pot expert.
is it anything like this http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=18&fg=10

metamac, even if your engine is the E36 one, I think the exhaust manifold is dimensionally identical to the E30 item, (except the E30 is stainless, the E36 is not) though I am open to correction on this. And engine mounts / block size should be the same. If this is the case, then:
Genuine BMW E30 parts should fit OK (expensive but very good quality),
Or
Pattern parts, such as those from kwik-fit etc, possibly out of a Bosal catalogue (cheapest option - worst quality)
Or
A custom stainless setup (most expensive, but last forever if done properly)
These seem to be my options anyway, as I too have a '90 318iS, that will need new centre and rear boxes soon. I'm leaning toward the stainless option, because over here in Ireland, the price of an OEM item and a stainless setup aren't too far apart, so I think thats worth saving up for the stainless job seeing as I intend keeping this car a while.
It is possible the long pipe and rear box would fit your car - if you're happy with the sound and fit and it passes emissions tests, then it's another option alright. It may well be louder than stock without the centre bit, but maybe thats what you're looking for?
