Hideous barge!!
I worked on one of these for the best part of 5 years, then the owner finally came to his senses and we broke it to try and revive his very empty wallet! There is a very good reason that steering wheel is so big, drive one and you will soon realise, once you drive it you will see they are waste of fuel/money/your life and start to hate them as much as I do :)

A 'good' one is a great driving car, by the standards of the day. Most are sorry tonced up, worn out ,patched up scrap , as are most E30s :(
The weapon of choice is the 300sel 6.3, I am assuming by Dans hatred for these turds that he must have have been caught napping by one ! :)

I wasnt caught napping Pete, I had more than a good earner out of the POS. By the standard of the day im sure there were much better driving cars around that would do double figure MPG all day long not just on a 50mph motorway run

^^ Not really. The W108/109 arrived in 1965 (250S) when the world was driving Austin A110 Westminsters and whilst the 280S/SE is a bit of a gutless turd, the V8's (280SE 3.5) are pretty useful. The W111 Coupes are just art on wheels. A good one with proper tyres and tight suspension and steering is a nice driving car, but there are very few good ones. Most - such as the one you worked on - are shagged out 40 year old rubbish but you have to think of it as a 40 year old car no matter what. Ever driven a 105E Anglia?
The BMW E3 (2500/2800, 3.0 etc) did drive a lot better and the XJ6 had a better ride. the next generation S Class from 1972-79 was a very serious motor car.

The only car I can really compare it to was one I was also doing a few jobs on at the time, it was a Rover P6 3500 and IMO a much nicer car
