after cmpleting a 318 to 325 conversion i now want alot more power so i have been reading up on the s50 engine and would really like to do this conversion, know i no the exhaust is the pricy bit from btb but i just wanted to now what is the wiring side of things like? im guessing its not going to be plug and play like the last 1 and some scan tools will be required. just after some advise really specially of those who have done this conversion, could you please tell me what gearbox do i use and what other parts do i have to think about, which diff prop linkage ectect....

There are quite a few build treads of this swap now, Have a look at them for a proper idea of whats involved. Wiring can be a bit daunting and takes a long time to make it nice. Gear box is the e36 m3(you will need a suitable ratio diff), Prop shaft can be either e30 m3 or e36 328. Most important of all...... Make sure you get a known good engine that you have seen running!!!! After that it is just nuts and bolts, Oh and plenty of ££££'s.
You pay your money, you make your choice
Mine is a 3.0l and I have done a 3.2l conversion for a customer, His is a cab but mine is faster
In the real world the 3.0l makes 280-95 hp and the evo makes 295-310 hp. Dual vanos rumors are over hyped and bottom end failures are avoidable with ARP's so no need to avoid the evo for reliability issues.
ok what exactly is the vanos and the issueswith them? also what is EWS? ive seen this word pop up in a few differnt forums. how much for the lot to get me started on my conversion uwem3? pm me, penton08 thanx for the quik replies

EWS is the programmed key system used on more modern BMWs - it's linked to the ECU so you need a programmed key, ECU and EWS module - again there are many threads dedicated to this if you do a search...
Going from a 325 to even a 'standard' S50 is one hell of a power jump so please do make sure that your brakes, suspension and bushes are up to the job otherwise you will just spend your time spinning up the rear tyres and not being able to stop!!
I considered an S50 for quite a while (and might still go there!) but my future is S14 powered for that retro bank emptying charm...
Depends on what you want the car for - daily driver or track monster? Either will suit an S50 just fine, but a good M52 conversion is also very nice...
Good luck!
