i think they are both about 194 bhp with the m52 having more torque

putting the inlet manifold + throttle body from a 2.5 m50 onto the m52 should see around 210 bhp maybe more when re mapped winkeye

Dan had 243bhp on his 2.8 with the manifold, cams and still to be re-mapped :)

Can someone explain to a moron like me what difference extra torque will make. They put out the same power but one is quicker no?

both may have the same peak power as the 328 doesn't really have any advantage in the top end due to being restricted so much.

But, due to being a 2.8 and displacement always being a winner, it has a wider torque-band and "more area under the power curve" hence being the quicker car.

Peak horse-power is useless if you haven't a useable rev-range.
