Getting it in at work friday to do the clutch but i still have the idling problem.. Now it wont idle and when i keep the revs at about 1,500rpm it keeps fluctuating from that to around 2,000rpm on its own..
im thinking either maybe tps like Rav said---but i never took it off?
or maybe a breather sucking in air?
has anyone come across this before?

How long was the engine sitting for?
And when you turned it over, did you leave it to idle on its own??

TPS or take the battery off overnight, connect up and start the engine, leave it to idle without touching the throttle for about 10 mins, IIRC, the ecu needs to "Learn" again.

problem is it starts but then cuts out straight away, reason why im thinking its a dodgy breather or maybe my idle control valve is faulty? my i.s icv valve looks the same, i might jus put it on to see if it makes any difference..

Hey guys, as you all know im having problems with the way my cars running and thought id record it so maybe someone could shed some light on what the problem is
one of my mates said his e30 used to make the same noise and it turned out to be a snapped Exhaust manifold stud which was sucking in air into the engine..i know none of mine snapped but i do know i put the manifold gasket in upside down,
could this be the problem?
Any help would be great peeps!

Yo sure your TPS isn't knackered???
And get that Cone filter OFF!!!!!!. they're shit, all you'll be doing is suking in Hot air of the exhaust manifold. Put the origional E34 on back on , it's shieled to protect it from heat.

Yep i know Rav i tried to fit the airbox i bought but it wouldnt fit because need to cut the coil pack brackets off due to the car originally being a iS and i cant do that untill i get it in at work again..
i did what you said with the tps but there was only one click when i just opened the throttle..there was no second click when it was fully opened
maybe thats knackered?

TPS then, should have 2 clicks iirc, one at WOT and the other when the throttle position is slightly engaged.

yep mine definantly only has one click when it is slightly engaged..no matter how i adjusted it there was no second click
maybe its time to look for a TPS?

I'm sure you can check it via volt meter.
Put it up in the tech section, Will and Mr Moooore are on there now.

i think we got lost in translation mate
i just looked in my haynes manual again and it shows how to adjust the tps with the voltmeter...only problem is it says "if the readings are incorrect adjust to correct settings" which it does not tell you what the actual reading should be

ok guys after a NEW TPS and a bit more investigating im STILL having the same problem
getting quite annoyed now as i cant find an air leak and i cant figure out what it is..
Im thinking now maybe its a faulty "blue temp sensor" or maybe a dodgy earth or something? really am running low on ideas or motivation tbh
Wondering wether to take it to a BMW expert and asking him to take a look?

Ok guys slight update..I bought a good AFM and tried it today and for once the revs dropped to around the 1000rpm mark which was a good sign..now ONLY when i rev it past 2000rpm it starts doing what it does in the video i posted..
so i started messing around with things (again) and if i disconnect the ICV it makes no difference to the revs and i can rev it up perfectly which makes me near certain about it not having an air leak..
so i changed it back to the (known good) second hand one i bought recently and it does the same thing..
i have 12v to both the outer pins of the connector which goes to the ICV...
im wondering wether to fork out on a brand new one now? really am frustratingly close to figuring this out!!
